Well, I quit USA today. I don't have many posts but enjoy reading this site almost everyday. USA didn't screw me over, in fact they were quite good to me. I didn't get shorted on my check or at least nothing I didn't expect, I just don't like trucking. I was miserable out there, I missed my wife and kids. Kudos to drivers who do it for a living, I was actually pretty good at it as far as being on time and no accidents, I just hated it. I wanted a job and got recruited, trucking requires a change I wasn't prepared for or willing to make. I will continue to read and be a member, thanks for all the advice everyone has shared over the last few months.

Trucking is not for everyone. This can be a trying lifestyle. Dealing with the daily pressures, deadlines, and John Q. Public, is enough to drive anyone batty. some of us thrive on this sort of stuff, others, not so much. I wish you well and good fortune wherever your path leads you

I will never bang on a guy for trying something and realizing it was not for them. There are too many drivers out there in your same situation with the same feelings and blame everyone and everything but themselves. Trucking is not for everyone. I don't know how anyone with a wife and kids that stay at home could do OTR.

You made the decision that will be best for you, your family and your health. Good luck in wherever life takes you.

    Honestly..Trucking is not for everyone.

I am local and get to sleep in my own bed at night...after 15 hours of working! And am off 8 hours and back on the log again so even local hauling will short you on family hours.

There is nothing wrong with someone wanting family time. If anyone gives you any crap about "Couldn't hack it" or "Wussy" just ignore them. You have to be crazy to want to be a trucker.

Is it time for my medication yet?

Sorry to hear it didn't work out for you. How long did you drive before you decided it wasn't for you and how long did USA have you for at a time?

Thanks, Chumley, for your honesty! It's good to have someone come on here and --rather than start spreading blame on the company, other drivers, shippers, receivers, etc. -- to just say the job/lifestyle simply wasn't for them. Not every job is meant for every person. You'll find something you enjoy... and both you and your family will be better off for it. Life's too short to be unhappy in your chosen career/profession. :biggrin_25514:

Best of luck to you! You gave it a shot and now you will try something else.
Honestly, If I did not have to be a driver, I wouldn't. Family is the most important thing.
This is the best way for me to take care of my family right now and I do it.
I also get home almost every weekend, so that helps.
But it is hard to come home and relax as now you have to do all the things that your wife could not do.
    But again.....Best to you!

nothing wrong with trying something new. I just hope you didn't get suckered into a long contract to have to pay off. that really sucks. But most of all good luck in what ever you do next and take good care of that family.
