I had this conversation with some friends who drive for a living and none of them could give me an answer. All I know is, as a retired law enforcement officer I can legally carry anywhere in the U.S. per the Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act of 2004. H.R. 218. Not sure if this Act overrides any DOT Reg or not. I would think it would. But then you have the Company Policies of whether they let you carry or not. I would say most would not let you carry one in the truck.

Most states have reciprosity with other states, in Oklahoma the permit is generally recognized in 22 states, you just need to know which states recognize your permit. Ive heard in Utah it's possable to get a permit that covers over 30 states. I was told you don't have to be a resident you just have to take the test and pay the fee from a registered instructure. So it might be possible to get a permit that covers close to all the states in the country, that would be very cool. Even if your state doesn't have reciprosity with a lot of states, simply put your empty hand gun in a locked container and your ammo in another locked container and you should have no problem in any state.

A resident Tennessee permit is accepted in 35 states.

So what are the guidelines about carring in a truck? I know its not illegal and there are certain rules that you need to follow but what are they?
-
It varies by state...each state has their own rules. You are in IL, the strictest state of them all... -
Not for long. Will be in NC possibly which will be nice having a CCP that is good for there.

If the company your friend worked for had a COMPANY POLICY no weapons allowed in company trucks...then its his own fault...he can support his self if he has to pickup aluminum cans off the median strip
I disagree about the percentages you have stated....all I know that here in GEORGIA we have many city ordinances that REQUIRE home owners to posses firearms....crime went down 99% overnight..
if the bad guy knows that the good guys arre carrying too...they leave that area and go to criminal friendly places like Illinois where only criminals can carry....
WE SHOOT THEIR AZZZZZSSSSS here...wulfman75 and outerspacehillbilly Thank this. -
Go to handgunlaw.us to find what states honor other states permits. There is no law against carrying a gun in a commercial vehicle, only company policies by companies that would rather replace a dead driver than do a proper personnel screen or deal with a shooting incident.
:smt023wulfman75 Thanks this. -

Actually, Califormia will honor out of state CCW permits. However, you are not allowed to carry a weapon that has more then ten round of ammo
