1. Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

For most, misdemeanors are nothing. He could probably even get it cleared off or hidden. Just don't ever ever ever get a felony. Ever. I would rather do ten years in Iraq. Believe me I have one. Getting around it is more than a major pain.

Oh yea and most wont hire you while on probation for whatever reason.

Most probation officers will allow you to leave the state for work. Unless they are really against you and want you to fail.

What most companies look for is theft or ability to cross into Canada. He shouldn't have too many problems.

so is it better to put it on the application and be honest or leave it off and hope it don't come up and explain it if asked? I'm in the same boat with a 5 yr old domestic battery charge classified as a misdemeanor but neither my wife or myself filed the charges it was the police who took it upon them selves to interfer in a petty argument. I had my DAC run through a company my uncle works at but and nothing came back, but like it was said earlier,it might come back on a criminal check. I was honest with one company and they dropped me w/o even running the background check based on my "honesty"

Being "Honest"...., that is a tough one. I was considering not mentioning my misdemeanors, but it is a risk. I have been turned down, time and time again. It is not a theft charge, but it will keep me from going into Canada. To get into Canada you have to be squeaky clean. I am changing my job search to smaller companies that do not run into Canada. Hopefully I will have some better luck. However, Maverick Transportation does not ask for misdemeanors on there application. They ask for Felonies only. They called me back saying they will not have any problems running my application. However I am still in CDL School..., so they told me to call them back when I am a week out from graduation. They have openings in their "Glass Division" (Flatbed). It would not hurt to give them a try.
