more proof that pulling trucks over on the interstate for harassment/inspection is not a good idea~!!!!!!!

The shoulder is meant for emergency stopping....not as an inspection station...

LEO community needs to get with the program, how many troopers are killed every year, in the pursuit of revenue enhancement????

If the truck driver is violating a law he/she should be pulled over just like anyone else. It is never safe for anyone to be pulled over, but this is the only way to catch those who are breaking the law.
I do know as a warning to all truck drivers. DOT is strictly enforcing regulations and you will be written up and fine for anything you are doing wrong. They may take 1 out of the 2 you are written up for, but they will fine you. I know this as I see it happening daily with our truck drivers.

PLease don't speed, keep your log current & log what you are actually doing and don't go over the HOS! This will SAVE YOU MONEY! Not me, but you!

Maybe this accident will effect change. No reason to be doing an inspection on the shoulder. It is unsafe for all.

my point is, law enforcement, harass drivers in order to enhance revenue....this is true with 4-wheel pullovers as well as big trucks....they write tickets and citations for revenue....under the guise of promoting safety.

IT IS NEVER SAFE TO PULL ANY VEHICLE OVER on the shoulder of a major highway, for an inspection....the reason they do this, is some of the bad drivers who "make logs right" before going into weight stations are hard to catch, so the LEO's attempt to catch the drivers off guard.

    Case and point....

There have been MULTIPLE fatal accidents in the last year, at the westbound port of entry on i-40 in New MExico...this is due to the heavy truck traffic being stopped, in the slow lane waiting for scale and PERMIT inspection....now you could argue that this is necessary, BUT I DONT WANT TO BE KILLED BECAUSE SOMEONE SLAMS INTO THE REAR OF MY TRUCK WHEN WAITING TO SCALE....and it is not necessary to turn off prepass, and keep the scale open when there are 1-2 miles of trucks waiting to scale...last time through there it took me 25 minutes to cross the scale....

The DOT's of ALL STATES should make EMERGENCY pull off lanes similar to PA turnpike, for ALL PULLOVERs, and a law should be made that when the police light you up, you proceed to the next pull-off....this would make it safer for all...these pulloffs would also allow people to safely get broke down vehicles out of the way....no more stopping on the white line...

99% of tickets are revenue based, 1% are safety based....

I will not participate in that back up. I've been known to go past. If I get hit the state of NM can count on me owning that chicken house.

In the interest of safety I go past.

Ok if they make a place for drivers to pull off safely and allow them to go to the next stop I could see this. We had the same situation happen here in Indiana also, actually several. Not just truck drivers either.
I know the officers need to be able to pull drivers over. If they couldn't pull them over then every one would be speeding all the time. That's more less where my head was. If you don't feel safe pulling over, can't you turn on the blinkers and proceed until you feel safe? I know Indiana works this way, due to people impossing to be officers when they are not.

They would need to make plenty of these areas to pull over. This would save many officer lives to, so why won' t they do this? :biggrin_2556:

I can see pulling a truck over that is speeding, or operating in another sort of unsafe manner, just like any other vehicle would be pulled over.

In the case of this accident though, it was over an inspection. Absolutely no excusable reason for this at all. This is what weight stations are for, there is absolutely no reason to be doing this to trucks on the side of the road.

I agree, but also being pulled over many cops & humans (doesn't matter trucker or not) have been killed because the cop pulled them over for speeding etc and was writting the ticket.
I have so many times have been driving down the interstate and going with the flow of traffic and boom all of a sudden brake lights hit and everyone slams on the brakes, to find out it is a cop ahead. I have been scared of hitting people all the time. Shoot I am scared if I am stuck on the interstate when them truckers go by fast and they are an inch away from hitting me because the side of the road has barely any room to pull over. Maybe they should just make the sides wider and that would solve all of the issue's for the most part. No inspections should not be done on the side of the road.

I would think after all the attention that these sort of wrecks get the cops would have a great sense of self preservation than this. But apparently not.
