Well, to answer your question (highlighted above), what I was told; Swift was having trouble getting drivers to deliver local loads (especially in the Atlanta area) to be set up for another "longer" run after doing the local. The local would consist of getting paid for 18 miles (when in actuality, due to the restriction of going around Atlanta on the ring road..the distance was 50 miles) and 1.2 or more hours to get to the consignee. So they made the pay "sound" so great (to a rookie who didn't understand, they succeeded) to do the local delivery. Get paid 18 miles at $0.52 cpm for taking 5-7 hours to do the delivery...what a marvelous concept!

I mean what's the average pay per mile in the truck industry (to get a feel of how low CR England is)?

I lucked out when I went to England back in 2001.I actually had a good trainer who had been driving over 30 years. He taught me a lot and he was a good guy.
That's not to say they didn't have tons of trainers who never drove a minute in the snow themselves, yet, they were gonna train someone else how to do it..
I don't figure anyone has any business training a driver until they have at least 5 years on the road themselves.. -
I am a trainer for another company. Spotless record, awards, etc. As a personal and professional preference, If the student cannot speak and understand English, I do not let them on my truck. I am not an English Teacher. We have enough to teach on the road, without teaching someone to read and write English. Don't know if this was so in your case, but it has been several times (more than I have fingers and toes) for me. Good luck out there!

Dont do it! Trucking is at a low point right know. Cant think of one large company that is treating drivers right. Pay scales have droped a lot over the last 3 years or so. Their are more drivers than jobs right now. These large bottom feeder companys use this to drop pay and will fire you for any little thing because they just higher someone else. They dont care about you. You will be a number not a person to them. If you dont take all the BS that they can hand out your gone! Their are 5 guys waiting for your job so dont screw up or question anything you are told to do.
As far as how the pay works expect to be paid 10% less miles than you actually run. If you are dispached 2700 miles a week you will actually drive 3000. Nothing you can do about this. Expect to do a lot 4 free. They will tell you you will get lay over or detension pay but will do every thing in their power not to pay you for it. Most companys wont pay layover untill you sit 24 hrs. If you sit 23 hrs and 55 minutes you get nothing! You are about to start a job that will screw you more than you can ever imagine.
Good luck but my advice is wait a few years and see if trucking comes around. Right now its realy bad! -
You're right!
I've spent 18 hours waiting to get loaded and didn't get paid a cent. 4 hours here, 6 there, 5 more there and so on. $30 to tarp, but nothing to retarp a load that someone else screwed up for me! I was getting 35cpm when I started, 2 years later it dropped to 32cpm and in January they went out of business. I started trucking in the 90's at 18cpm and in a year was making 38cpm running doubles, team, non-stop Boston-LA and points in between. You get paid what you demand to get, settle for less and that's what you get. I just told a company I wouldn't work for them in a truck that's more than 2 years old. What the hey, lots of companies won't let you lease on with an old truck, so why should I drive their old piece of crap truck!
I think truck school is a waste of money, the best thing to do is to find someone that will let you drive their truck and be their lumper, slave labor for a license. Then get into a team operation with someone who really knows what their doing, if you can find such a person. Instead of paying for school, you paid to drive while you learn!
That's how I did it. -
CR England had a woman trainee get raped by her trainer who was a convicted felon with a record amile long for violent crimes. It used to be posted on the entrance of this forum and was for years until they changed formats. That guy got convicted and I imagine the woman sued the company for not disclosing the violent past to the woman before they put her in the cab of the truck with him for a month or longer. It's not the only time it's happened either. CR England is a NASTY place with horrid people working there. Your husband is better off without being there. i pray he finds a ride home and here are some stories about women getting raped by CR England employees.

I can't find it right now but it used to be on the old format and the one that was on this site would make you cry about the woman getting raped by a CR England trainer.Half a Load Thanks this. -
just google CR England trainer rape cases. Your going to find over a 10 women who were raped and those are just the convictions. CRE has the worse trainers in America and I had a post with over 20 women who claimed to be raped with links that was removed, i think. All of them can't be telling lies....one of the cases from 2004 was verified and posted by moderators in the old format before it changed. CRE is not only a bottom feeder Inc, but it condones the raping of women in the trucking industry.

what about men? Do men get raped too if they are weak?
