I have heard that about California. You all don't really stop at stop signs either; so I hear. Well you and Martman need to watch out for each other and hook up so you both can practice safe driving! Maybe Martman can do something crazy and see how you will react or vice versu? Hmm good thought, maybe they should do that to rookie drivers. Instead of having a trainer on the truck they follow you and do stupid crap to see how you will react, but you never know when the person will be behind you! HMM NOW THAT WOULD BE TRAINING!

I hear you! I have read many a horror story of on this and other forums regarding the way the general public drives around the big trucks. I always keep in my mind to make sure I can see the driver in his mirrors when following and do my best pass to pass em as quickly as I can.

Actually, my HOG Chapter puts on an event every year called Road Kill Rodeo where some of the members bring in several big rigs in different configurations and an RV etc. and we stage our bikes around the trucks and let riders climb aboard and count the bikes. It's an eye opening experience for most people to know there are 18 bikes surrounding a truck but once in the driver seat they can count maybe 5 of em!

It's true about the stop signs here. There is a four way stop near my old office and everyday (exaggeration) the fuzz gets people for doing the "ole california stop-n-roll" it used to crack me up going to work and seeing the city getting more revenue because some idiot just can't STOP completely. I mean what part of STOP is so hard to understand?

While were bashing California maybe it happens elsewhere too but I would venture to say that here only 30-40% of people use turn signals anymore. Seriously I have to say it's less than half.

I would say the turn signal issue is nationwide. I can speak for Indiana. The drivers here will drive nice and slow and all proper, but when they get ready to turn they turn on their turn signal about 1/4 before they are supposed to turn. Now I know we don't turn them on to soon, but umm not when you are turning right or left. GRRRR nothing like a safe driver, not being so safe. :twitcy:

We're pretty good with turn signals in my neck of the woods (southeastern Pennsylvania). The worst place I've experienced was I-95 around NYC -- you gotta watch the surrounding vehicles' front wheels to determine where they are headed next. :biggrin100 (27):

And "California stops" are known nationally. Easing through a stop sign is called the same thing here. I remember my daughter using that phrase, and when I asked her where she learned it, she told me "driver's ed" at school. LOL

Here in Texas we dont have many "california Stops" they dont even slow down. The joke here is what does traffic light colors mean?

    Green -- Go
    Yellow -- Go Faster
Red -- 2 more cars can make it

Awww I remember driving in Texas! Land of the drive thru liquor stores!

As far as speeding up through the lights here in California they continue to add the camera regulated intersections. Hope those last two cars at least smile for their ticket!:biggrin_25523:

I gotta say Seattle drivers aren't far behind Cali driver's. Else where in WA. driver's are pretty courteous to truckers.

In outstate MN, were so nice, everyone sits at the 4 way and looks at each other.

    (Bemedji is the worse)

Also we Norwegians like to get into a turning lane, apply the brakes, come to the intersection....and then, and only then do we signal the turn that we are planning to make.(And for the most part, already have):biggrin_25512: (Can I get an Amen Dragon?) It's really quite annoying, even thought you expect it every time.

Anyway, good luck MarT, and give us an update when ya can..

    Hey everyone

Well I am still alive and I passed the physical and the wellness program today and got a lot of paperwork done. Hopefully will find out tomorrow if they have a trainer for us. About 30 people attended orientation and 3 were sent home mainly due to failing the physical. One guy could not pull himself up on the second step of a ladder. Needles to say he was way overweight. I felt bad cause he was there in front of everyone and well I would have hated to be in his shoes. He should have known better but they didn't have to do it like that.

Other than all that excitement today its just mainly paperwork left to do. They told us that we would be checking out of the hotel in the morning so not sure where that leaves us after tomorrow. My BP turned out to be 133/88. I was sweating that for a bit because I am on meds for it and it usally goes up in situations like that. The work well thing consisted of lifting 25, 50 and 75lbs of weight from a squat to a top shelf. Then lifting the same about of weight from a lower shelf to a upper shelf and then walking with the same weight about 50 feet and we had to do each one 3 times and that qualified you to do dry van driving. To do Flatbed required another 10lbs but I declined because I was so winded all I wanted to do was get out. Took about 5 hours to complete all that then lunch and the rest of the day was more paperwork. After I got back to the hotel I treated myself to some room service (food) :biggrin_255: .

There is free internet in the lobby and nobody is using it. The hotel is really nice (Holiday Inn Select) near the Memphis airport. Anyway I am tired and need some sleep.

    Take care!

    Marty
