A beginning truck driver hitting the road with the full support of his ball & chain back at the home twenty will probably do okay.

The smallish paychecks will be enough to get by on if he has the full support of his ball & chain bac k at the home twenty.

If a beginning truck driver is single and wants to see the country through the windshield of a truck without taking the time to stop and see it up close he will probably do okay.

If a beginning truck driver is cab happy as all get out, than nothing else will matter and he will probably do ok.

Just some positive thoughts on the topic of conversation..

LOL!!! Know too many O/Os who aren't/ weren't making money and gave their trucks back to the lender - a major problem of systemic proportions for many years. A close relative spent time in Federal Prison because he was so disillusioned with the crap freight rates and crooked brokers he made the fateful decision to go for the 'easy money' (haul dope).

No big secret there has been a huge 'over capacity' situation within the T/L freight industry since deregulation, hence the often poor employment situations. I haven't messed with T/L freight for a couple of decades but hear and read plenty; if anything, it's worse now than ever.

I have a spotless record, FastPass card, passport but no TWIC card as of yet. My employer has decreed we get one and I just haven't gotten around to it. Many fellow employees can't qualify for a FastPass, passport or TWIC card due to past criminal convictions, even minor ones.

My child's inlaws are owner operators and it's comical to listen and watch them in action. Silly stuff eats away at their bottom lines all too often like wrecker bills for loose electrical connections/poor maintenance have killed their profits all too often.

Nothing else quite like trucking; my 36th anniversary coming up next month!:biggrin_255:

I don't need any assistance from you to make trucking pay for me. You and a few like you are whiners and every thing you post is negative. Go back and read that list. That list is BS and you know it. Grow up.

The fact is many O/O have no idea how to run the truck to make money. It can be done! Ten's of thousands do it every day and make money at it. Your example of wrecker bills for minor things is typical.

You've displayed much overt 'coercion' with little insight to back your premises up. Some folks consistently make money at Trucking while the majority don't or break even at best.

In regard to my list; thinking it helps to have a sense of humor. Which 'points' aren't true? Are they subjective?:biggrin_25524:

The only problem I have with your list is the first few words: The truth is...........As far as some folks making money while the majority don't that maybe true. I think the majority make money and the rest don't. Why? Not understanding what loads are profitable/not.

I just don't understand all of the negativity! if you are that unhappy go away and make room for someone else. if a person takes on this job without doing the proper research and having a full understanding so be it. its a life lesson.if you get in and find out that its not to your liking Leave its not like you will go to jail if you quit. so many people you see on here mostly veteran drivers bad mouth trucking truckers and the business you must all be miserable. I for one would love to be back on the road right now! and can't get there right now. I looked forward to getting a load and heading out my wife handled things at home and when I told my DM it was time to go home he got me there. I worked for Swift I know you all hate them and that's OK they treated me right. these newbies come on here and hear all this bad taste in your mouth info and really think they are screwed. not all experiences are bad! some of us like what we do.

OKieron, This forum seems to be the place the whiners come to roost. (not all here are whiners) Most Drivers are happy at what they do. If you believe what some say nobody makes money, gets home, ect. I was told years ago that I would fail as O/O because " there is no money in trucking" I read the same thing every day on this forum "there is no money in trucking" Yet I'm still trucking profitably.

Broke it up to make it readable.

Recruiting in general is mostly disingenuous; no big secret here. Many have had their employment records 'damaged' by often rightly walking away from unproductive situations; unconscionable.

Negative? Just telling the truth. Too many have wrongly been lead to believe that a career in Trucking is a panacea of 'quick money'; nothing could be further from the truth.:biggrin_25523:
