I may switch up from another place and attend W&S. My criminal History is not an issue, they want 10 years of past employment history, college attendance and unemployment dates.
Ok Well I'm working on finding that out but

she mentioned a drive test and that they do not offer training. Well I passed my CDL test but do they expect perfection on the backing part?

While I can certainly back with out hitting something, if its not up to their standards but easly fixable with a little coaching I would hope they offer that instead of " hit the trail "

Anyways I'm going to be nervous with any first employer and any advice in dealing with them would be wonderful

I felt the same way DON't Stress. You have 3 driving opportunities and a backing opportunity. It is not that hard and as long as you practice backing in the training trucks you will be fine. A few of the guys from my class and I practice backing 2-3 hours each night after training. Non of us had any issue. I have only been on the road for 2 month I attended the 10 day June 1-10. Got in my truck June 12 and been running since.

Well Roxie I think her name is stressed to me that they are NOT a training center. She basicly said I need to know how to operate a truck before I come and yes I can operate a truck however its a month worth of training I have under my belt, hardly a pro.

So thats why I'm asking because yea I think Im ok but to have my back at a 45 degree angle and be ON the line or with in a foot of it the first try is going to be very difacult.

    Thats why I'm asking.

If I considered trucking JUST another job instead of a career I would not be so concerned but because I'm going to do my best to be my best on the road and SAFE, and considering this is a career I plan to take this job, eh career very seriously.

    BTW thanks for your help

The question here is can you manuever the truck, nobody hits it the first time, but they want to know that you can actually move and not be a danger. We were all new, hell I am still new only doing this a few months now, I never had a live dock to use until I went to the 10 day program, I only had my CDL training and went for it. Here I am almost 5 months later, and proud to say I made it.

If you had serious issues with your CDL training I would be a bit worried, but if you found it hard but yet doable then you will be ok. Just remember GOAL (Get out and look). They wont ding you for using your head.

the other posters are right...they expect you to drive, but to not be a seasoned pro at it...as long as you can maneuver the truck without hitting things you should be fine. Also, they WANT you to get out and GOAL when you back, it shows that you are aware of the fact that you can't always back with mirrors and sometimes need to get out and look.. They have a dock in the Missoula yard and you can practice as much as you want backing into it using the training trucks after hours and on the weekend. If you have the confidence to drive the truck, you should be fine...

So even though I've already been thru a 4 week , 160 hour truck school and roxie the recuiter there told me they do not offer a training program,

so you guys are saying even with what she said that we can still practice backing up and refreshing what we learned? if thats the case than I have nothing to worry about and I feel much better.

Yes hams, if they hire you then you attend W/S 10 day orientation before you hit the road.

And during the 10 day orientation, there are a couple of trucks available to the people in orientation. They are available after the training hours till you want to go to bed, and all day and night on the weekend. Just practice, practice, practice your backing and shifting. You'll be fine....

Ok so my final question is Swift or Watkins and shepard. My priority is making money and not being nickled and dimed at every turn..

I just talked to 2 drivers here in Nephi, UT with Swift and they both were impressed with what I had to say about Watkins, Gave both of them Roxy in recruiting departments number. The both enjoy driving but tired of 22-2600 mile weeks I have been averaging 27-3100 miles a week steady and we have more coming. Unless you know the right people at wift you are a number and run maybe 2500 miles a week right now if you are luck. We will see what happens if they really call.
