Really? you don't have to pay electric bill while you"re on the road? Well I do. get a bill every month whether I'm there or not. Unless they cut it off because I can't get time at home.Still have a mortgage payment weather I'm there or not also. Still have to buy gas for the car cause I drive 150 miles 1 way to get home cause I don't want to be under a load when I go home. I dunno, If you have a home(I mean other than your truck)you still have bills to pay but, Its kinda like paying child support but you never get to see the child ha!

Its been my experience to actually make more money running local than OTR.

I make the same as running 400 miles a day at .35 cpm daily. I'm home every night in my own bed and I spend much less on food. My leisure time isn't spent in a sleeper with the company ######## about idle time. There's no comparison really.

If I move out west and do the same thing I'm doing now, I'd never EVER miss OTR. That's the only thing I do miss about OTR is witnessing the occasional awesomeness of nature (which I didn't see much of getting stuck on the east coast after Obama took over and the freight died).

If you get into a decent LTL company you will make $20 + an hour with ot after 8 doing pick up and delivery. Or at least $0.45 a mile doing LH + hourly dock work.

LTL is where the money is.

Lots of work though. I'd rather let the truck do most of the labor lol.

Well, northlane was asking mainly about the money "bonuses" comparing local and long distance trucking, but if you want to "go there"........

    Disadvantage(s) to localing:

    1) You get to shift up to 400 times a day! Try that sometime. And, yes, i've counted.

    2) Backing up upwards of 20+ times a day. An OTR'er might back up 2-3X's per week.

Admitedly, i can't think of too many other "disadvantages" to running local right now. Will continue later.

I drive an automatic ten wheeler lol. I submit that if it were manual, considering the job (front load dumpster truck), I'd never have signed up!
