Not a problem. I've got to run to Alpena right now, my wife fried the microwave yesterday. Catch up later. Let me know what they say?

Home at last!
Spent a couple hours this morning doing some final paperwork, preparing a log to be ready for going out with a Training Engineers. Got a small presentation about what will happen and what is expected from our time with our Training Engineers.
By the time I got home this afternoon, my TE had already called. We will meet Monday morning and be out for about 6 days to start, and then we can decide where to go from there. He is on the Dollar General account, and I am pretty sure it he said it was all hand unload! Either way, we had a good conversation and although I am happy to have this weekend break, I am anxious and excited to get out next week and move to the next step of my training.
Raid3rdifference-maker and The Challenger Thank this. -
Alright! Yepper, those DG accounts are all hand unload. Pay attention to your backing, you'll get some good experience on that account. You'll be putting a truck where a truck wasn't designed to go! At least a full size truck!

My TE said to me , and I am paraphrasing " If you can pass working on this account, you will be the best driver on your account" He told me that he became a TE because he was not satisfied with the new drivers other TE 's were putting on his account, which he had to re train as a DG driver.

Sounds like ya got one with a brain in his head, and interested to see you succeed. Can't ask for better than that!

Good luck RoadRaid3r and keep us posted. I too am done with Orientation and glad to be back with my family. We have a shortage of Training Engineers (TE) in our area and a couple of the students were told that it could be a week or more before they hear from their TE. However, they will get paid while they wait.
I requested a week of home time to spend time with my wife and daughter before heading out for my real world training. If they are indeed short of trainers then my request ought to come as welcome news.
WILDBILL123, I can tell you from my experience that the Charlotte, NC OC is decent. I had lunch there every day during Orientation and was impressed on how good it was for a cafeteria setup. They have a couple of women that immediately clean a shower after it has been occupied. There's a lounge area for watching a big screen TV, free WiFi which reaches out to the truck parking area, free laundromat (soap is available in the vending machines) and even a small fitness room with a treadmill, elliptical machine and bicycle. If I was in the area and had to choose between an area truck stop or this OC I'd definitely pick the latter.Last edited: Aug 14, 2010

Will they let you run out of route in order to use th OC ?
-
Now, that's an excellent question for which I don't have an answer. RoadRaid3r is going on the road with his TE before me, so perhaps he can get an answer for us.

Here is a related answer.
I know you can fuel out of route at an OC without being punished.
You can be out of route 10%.
Other than that I think johnday is better qualified to answer. However, after spending 7 days at the INDY OC, I would go OOR to stay there over an truckstop. I will ask me TE , 34 hours from now when I get on the truck. Anything else you want me to ask him let me know.
Raid3rwildbill123 and PCDoctor Thank this.
