    Two questions for you:

    1. If you wanted to take your reset in/near a major city like Chicago or NYC so that you could play tourist, where would you park? Is this even possible?

    2. Generally speaking are there places or truckstops in the Northeast/Midwest that are too dangerous to park in? Any really bad places to deliver?

Chicago has several T/S's in the area. Some good and some not, that is if you can find a place to park. I don't know about NYC. I generally avoid doing resets near large cities simply because the chances of getting robbed are higher and lack of parking. I haven't been to a really bad area for a delivery or p/u,but there isn't a single driver who has been everywhere. Are there areas you need to watch your back more closely than others yes and you'll where those are. The best defense for not getting robbed, hurt, or whatever is common sense. That means beware of your surrondings, don't broadcast being alone, espeically if you are a woman.

I think a lot of companies are going to frown on you leaving your truck unattended in the cities. Chicago does have some t/s but I don't usually get out of the truck there! Trust me when you go to the cities it will be all you can do to hurry up and get outta there! As for the Northeast there are truckstops but you usually have to fight someone for a parking spot and if you do get one you are time limited before they tow you. If you are that set on touring around park outside of the city and rent a car. You can do this very cheaply. I have found that a cab actually cost more!

I don't stay at truck stops unless I HAVE to. Period. Usually only stop for fuel and shower. I park in MUCH better locations. As for the citys, well, you really have to be careful. You might want to park outside of the city and call enterprise or another rental car company that picks you up. You can get pretty good rates at times too.

Are you all just scared? I bet if I said Boo.... You all would wet your pants, wouldn't you?

If your a wuss & scared of your own shadow, then it will be advisable to stay in the truck & forget about being a tourist. But if your a Man... Then you don't have nothing to worry about.

I've parked & slepted on the streets of Chicago, Queens, Bronks, LA, & Kansas City. And I'm still here! I even had a consignee tell me once that I better have a gun if I parked overnight at their location... I don't have a gun... And I parked there. Then there is that truck stop in Long Beach, CA... Oh NO~ Don't go there!!! Driver's are killed there daily over a $10 bill! I love that truck stop!!! I'd much rather be there then those places in Ontario.

Anyhow.... Don't be scared! Don't be a wuss! Remember, if you mind your own #### business, you won't have anything to worry about.

    Well said REDD.

I don't hide in the truck anywhere! I do the tourist thing whenever I get the chance and have had a lot of fun in the process!
I've stayed in some places that I've heard people say are dangerous and have never been bothered.

Probably because I'm so "cute" and "fuzzy"...Yeah, that's it!

That's about the worst advice I've ever heard, but after reading your tough guy flatbed thread and some other tough guy post, that's about what I'd expect from you.

To the OP, I can't think of the names of places that you want to try to avoid off the top of my head, but you can get jacked up or have stuff stolen from you anytime and anyplace and it normaly happens when you least expect it at a place you least expect. There are things you can do to minimize the risk, such putting cb's, gps, laptops, chargers, etc, etc out of site when your away from the truck. If you leave a trailer, put a kingpin lock on it, and I've even gone as far as taking off the tabs that hold the glad hand on. If your loaded with a Van try to find a pole or something to back up against so nobody can open the doors. Anything to make your vehicle look less appealing and harder to steal. For personal safety, use good judgement, stay away from dark areas, carry pepper spray, don't carry all your credit cards with you so if something does go wrong, you'll at least have a back up source of funds. As stupid as Redd's response was, some of it is attitude and carrying yourself with some confidence, but keep in mind that can only carry you so far, the rest is putting your gaurd up, useing common sense, and a having a little good luck on your side.

The only advice I gave was "Don't be scared! Don't be a wuss! Remember, if you mind your own #### business, you won't have anything to worry about."

So that's bad advice huh? Everything else I said was right on 100%

So tell me... Where are 90% of these big truck terminals & truck stops? Perehaps you played with your lego's way to long & didn't realize that they are in the most dangerous sections of town. And why is that? Because the land is cheap & they know the trucks will come because we don't have an alternative. So, if your scared to go do the tourist thing... Then your scared to even go to a truck stop & truck terminal. It's simple... If your scared, stay home. OH, your working local now aren't you?

Can we take this down a notch please? I'm interested in different perspectives, not flame wars. Thanking you all in advance.

And if anyone can name specific places that they don't like, that would be great. I ask this because a few years ago someone was telling me of a town/jurisdiction near Chicago that is supposedly 100% industrial/commercial and has a very high crime rate - lots of freight thefts. I don't remember any of the details, so I'm wondering if it was an urban legend.
