Read what you said. There are 3 negative statements about trucking in this post. I would never be looking for a job in an industry that I thought so little of. Either you are being inflammatory, and don't have such a negative view of trucking, or you will not be happy in the profession. Why would you post this statement? It really doesn't achieve anything.

I have read and listen why is it that you and others tell us repeatably what the "problems are", the "new trucking rules" are and how if you had to start today you would find it very difficult. Yet when i basically agree and voice my own concerns....I am viewed as a spoiled wannabe that needs to stay on the porch!

I get my opinions and views from my research. You have my respect, all you truck drivers do, but will it take for us wannabes to get yours? I am talking to a brick wall.

Are my posts written in a different language that only I understand? You are not even responding to what I am posting. I have never said anything about "new trucking rules" or finding it difficult if I had to start today. About the only "problem" I can recall posting about is that I don't think much of most lease purchase programs. If you reread my posts to you, you will see I am questioning why you would want to get into trucking if you thought it "total BS slinging at us from all sides," "suck us in and use our CDL," and that "the industry is nothing if not two faced." I never referred to you as spoiled, or any other negative statement. My statement is that you will not be happy in trucking if you are starting off with such a negative attitude. It is a very difficult occupation, and there will be times when you are extremely frustrated. If you are starting from a negative point, it will be tough grin and bear it when you face a challenge. As far as respect goes, please read the exchanges between myself and chralb or lurch. I show them respect because they are looking for a positive way to break into the industry. We traded questions and opinions. I gave them the best advice I could. They were not throwing out pointless posts about how bad the trucking industry is with no facts to back it up. I don't think much of negativity. Feel free to disagree with something or point out something that is wrong, but provide factual statements and back it up with a positive alternative. I tell my father (boss) the same thing when he is going off about how something is screwed up. Take responsibility, improve the situation, or move on. Maybe I am doing you a favor, and saving you from wasting a whole bunch of time breaking into this business only to realize you hate it.

I agree with cpape it is a difficult business to be in as I have been in and around trucks all my life and it isnt going to get any better than what we have today ...I have ALWAYS said there is no in between, either you are a trucker or not plan and simple...I understand that EVERYONE has to start somewhere and it takes alot to be a driver. If it was me and starting out I would try and find someone who could use me and see if this is what I wanted to do but listen I have been there Iknow what its like to leave home the first time how it scared the hell out of me and long way from home . But you can get use to it and adjust your life to be a trucker ...But you also give up alot to do this family friends as there just isnt any time to anything when you get home ....I have done both home everyweekend home once every 3 weeks and it doesnt make much differance in the time ...This is a very hard industry so much depends on you the driver on time delivery making sure your safe it all rides on your shoulders....I will say this though I LOVE doing what I do and wouldnt want to do anything else and once its in your blood you cant get it out ...I wish all the new drivers the best that is starting out and PLEASE listen to your trainers they have been there done that and be safe.....p.s. if any new drivers would like pm me and i will answer you with a honest answer

I knew nothing about trucking when I first started researching it on this forum. I read a lot of negative posts about trucking. How you could not make it. How every company is a rip off...and on and on and on. I did my research. I had 0 experience in.
I have found it to be very rewarding. I love pulling flatbeds and slinging the chains and tarps. Is it hard work ? yes! Can it be frustrating? Yes! Can it be fun? Yes!
I look at everything as the glass being half full!
If the world throws you lemons.....make lemonade!
I agree with Cpape, if you are starting off with negative views, you will fail because everything that happens will be viewed through the negative glasses to reinforce what you already believe.
I also wonder why people that think so little of trucking hang around this forum.
I have looked at Pape's website and it seems like a great company!
Keep on trucking and best wishers!

Cpape, Is there an age limit on the trucks for your owner operators? Or does it just depend on if they are in good shape and look respectable?

My son is planning to attend classes to get his CDL. Been reading about Drivers Solution in Little Rock. Where can he go for classes & traning that is ligit. He would prefer one that the actual trucking company trains him, rather than a "middle guy" like Drivers Solution. Apparently Schneiders doesn't offer classes anymore.
