Ok Drivers. I'm thinking about opening a a new safe parking lot for drivers where an old truck stop used to be in Anderson, SC off I-85 South Bound. If you've been through the area, you know that where I'm talking about was the Anderson Truck Stop on exit 27 on Hwy. 81. The business has since closed and the building leveled. The CAT scales are still there. No, they don't work. What I'm wanting to do is provide a safe place to park. What amenities do you, THE DRIVER, want? I'm thinking, laundry, showers, car rental, truck wash, movie/entertainment area. Give me some ideas. And for drivers that live in the area, a fenced in area for about 20 trailers that will be secured with a coded lock. Each driver would have an assigned code. Give me all your ideas. This is for you drivers. Talk to me.

Security patrol would be nice. And maybe a "special" section for reefer and bull/hog haulers..... someplace waaaaay downwind.:biggrin_2559:

This would be a good idea!....Without being a full-blown truck-stop...I wouldn't know what to tell ya' Lots of competition in that area. If you provide a controlled access paid parking area with restrooms only...that might be a thought, but I don't run that route often enough to know what kind of overflow you have there. Drop trailer parking for locals for fee (daily, hourly, monthly?). I know that in FL in the southeast area of I-95 that this would fly bigtime! Good luck with your endeavor!

Tesla: Drop parking would be a daily fee. And then based on what drivers use it the most, charge monthly.

Kitty: Security is a great idea. There will be someone in the scales house 24/7. But maybe also have the local law enfocement cruise through as well. I know lot lizards are a HUGE problem at all truck stops. They won't be at this one.

badcompany: If you're referring to the bar/resturant next door, then yes. That used to be Charlie T's, now it's called Sue's.

Y'all keep the ideas coming. I am listening.

Would this be a place where you are going to charge for parking? If so, I don't think it will fly. There is way too much free (and relatively safe) parking within 30 miles of there.

If I have to stop for the night on my way through that area, I generally stop in GA at the 166. I don't know what the difference is, but there isn't nearly the problem with riff-raff in Georgia as there is in South Carolina... just across the line. Although that kinda thing really doesn't bother me--hell, I'll even stay at the Pilot at the 35 if I get there early enough to get a parking spot.

The number one consideration I have when deciding where to stop for the night (relatively speaking that is... I usually sleep in the day time) is coffee--gotta have my coffee--GOOD COFFEE!:yes2557: And something quick, HOT and good for breakfast that hasn't been sitting in a wrapper for an hour or more. I rarely have time for a sit-down meal.

Heck, how about a drive-thru coffee shop for big trucks? Now I know I'd pull off the highway there for some good strong coffee where I didn't have to wade through all the trucks blocking the lot (Pilot).

As for security that will be a plus and if you build it right it will be great...Make it easy to get in and out ...And I think that if you did a grill that would fly same ole same ole at all truckstops needs to be different do a grill and be open at 5 am close say midnight and serve GREAT FOOD and not be overpriced I think it would be a hit for sure another thing the showers are they free or charged ? Hope it works for you

ez access is the key, and make the lot smooth...god I hate dodging moon craters especially at night ....which brings me to this point LIGHTING security at a truck stop is easy during the day because you can see, also backing into a spot in the dead of night when you're sufferring from a serious case a AZZHAT drag would be easier in my opinion if the lots were well lit. Just my 2 cents......but I wouldnt charge for overnight parking you'll go bankrupt and most definitely HAVE GOOD COFFEE and clean facilities to use!

The 1 problem I see is theft, from other drivers. A truck sitting there means the driver is away somewhere and his load is vulnerable.

There will be lots of lighting and a secruity on duty day and night. Cameras too. After reading the recent posts, all parkingwill be free. The asphalt will have to be redone. I wouldn't drive my pickup on it now. Showers will be free. Hot meals and good coffee, deffinately. Easy access is a given. How would y'all feel about a couple fuel lanes? Drive through coffee shop would be good. Just have to figure out how to do it right. Overhead clearance and avoinding curb checks.
It'll be a few years before this is a reality.
What amenities would y'all pay for, outside the normal truck stop options?
