.Actually a properly tuned radio will shoot skip very well, dead key low, swing high. Adjust audio till it flattops on the scope and then back it down to where it turns back into a sine wave. You will have loud clear audio that does not bleed too bad, well maybe just a little.

    .
Different antennas are designed for different things, A Monkey Made for instance is a broadband antenna designed to cover both 10 and 11 meters. Radios perform well because it tunes down to a 1.1 to match allowing all the signal your generating to get into the air not back into your radio. If you stay on 11 meter you don't need it (assuming your not a Amature). I have found using a Motorola R2000 with a spectrum analizer that of all the antenna test for the money, the Radio Shack 102 steel whip out performs any other antenna, except for broadband issues. Personally I use 5' Francis or Firesticks co-phased.

    .
I use RG142u for jumpers and RG213u the antenna on the rear of the cab. As far as mirror mounts I use a standard RG59u to build the phasing harness. Coax is alway important and so are connectors, On my Base Station I use Andrews LDF50 1/2" foam dielectric, with 1/4" superflex jumpers.

A clean well tuned radio installed properly, you may not need a amplifier any longer. Good clean audio will get thru alot of crap... Now if you add a amp to an already good setup it really talks..... But I'm not a big amplifier fan. Talking skip is not much fun when you just keep adding power. Learning how to use the skip waves is more interesting to me than horse power. If I just want to squash people I'll put my base on Santiago Peak with a 12.5 offset to get in on, but that takes the fun out.

Most of the time I don't, the competition on 11m when the skip is rolling is pretty stiff and the amp makes a huge difference in DX land..

Its is a Service Monitor. Used for working on radios, its only referenced so the person it was intended for would know what I use and that it is accurate for the purposes it was used for, like measuring field strenght of a signal out of the air for checking antennas to see if any of the gain promised exsists.

This is the radio section of a trucking site I also see you are neither a trucker ar a radio person so why would I need to dumb down my answers because your to lazy too look up things you do not know. and also just because you do not know does not mean that it is not common knowledge. By the way google will answer most of your what is it questions.

The purpose of these sites is to learn from one another.

I agree with Powder Joints there are some on this forum who know a bit about radio it might help if you take the time to learn from them.

One of the problems with CB/TRUCKING forums is the myths that you get to read on them and how if your a radio repair person how quickly you will be shouted down.

Powder Joints uses a good monitor/test staion to make his measurments not some $19 CB meter. Myself I use a IMR1200S at the shop and have older but useable stuff I use here at the house so again it will tell me the truth.

CBers get at best hearsay and if like he and myself have done you go against it some just don't want to hear you.

    EXAMPLE .....

Antenna gain A-99 9.9DBI BUNK ...Real less than 2 DB if that ....a 5/'8 wave will give about 3DBI thats IT.
Antenna Audio Gain ( JOGUNN ) This is total cra* they can't even back.
EXTRA CHANNELS ..... no such thing you have 40 thats it ..... and you have no rights on 12 ro 10 meters so don't go there. And while we are on this FM has no place on CB not in the US.
TWEEK/PEAK few work most distort the radio changing the RF stage from a 2SC1674 to a 2SC2999 in many radios WORKS. You want more go get a AMP ......

There are lots of places waiting to take your money and lies that are now 40 years old a wise consumer always makes out better. Follow the myths and you and your money will soon be parted ........

I think its funny how almost every thread on here that has to do with power/range at some point turns into a giant pissing match about rules and regs.
