I worked with a pain management MD that implants similar Boston Scientific implants. He focused on low back pain with his procedures. I saw about a 50/50 split with it working and not working. This device seems like the exact same device except obviously the placement. I was never an advocate of these devices and MOST of the time you can get the same relief from an external TENS unit. Read MOST OF THE TIME. It is a contraindication to put a TENS unit on your head... SO PLEASE DON'T. LOL I'm just not sure why an electrical impluse from this unit will be any safer? Decreased amps?
My personal feeling on how headaches should be treated in order of what I feel is least invasive to most:
1. Rest/Heat/Ice - Cheap and convenient
2. Chiropractic - Especially if you feel the headache begins at your neck/base of posterior skull. FYI Headaches and NOT low back pain is now the number one reason people visit a chiropractor.
3. OTC - while easy and convenient....ibuprofen destroys your intestinal tract and acetaminophen destroys your liver....go figure
4. Prescription Meds - don't get me started...but if it makes life livable I am not judging, I would take them too.
5. This scary surgical implant. -
I get migraines. There has never been an OTC med that works. Its even rare for the prescription stuff to work (I havent tried them) because each person is different when it comes to migraines. There is no known cure and around 20 different triggers. Basically, there wont be a placebo effect on something like this.
Cant say I would be willing to put something in my spine but then again I dont get migraines that often. It doesnt surprise me that it has come to this though.
When I was a kid I would puke my brains out and then force myself to sleep. That was the only cure. Now I can manage them a little better and recognize what is happening before its too late. I do know there are many ppl (mostly women) who have had their lives destroyed because of them. Having felt them I can understand why.
They are mostly hereditary and occur mostly in women. I am one of the lucky men to have inherited them.

I may have to ask dr about this. My son is 24 and has migraines that mimic strokes. slurred speech weakness one side and now passes out. Between this and cerebral Palsy(mild) he may never work. Her has been turned down 2x for ssi. who knows. I am just glad that if i start driving my brother will be here to take care of him.

When I was younger I used to get them real bad. Like Red Beard, the kind that make you puke, and if your lucky edventually pass out. Sometimes they would come back several days in a row, but even if they didn't I would still be real sensitive light, sound, or straining for the next few days. Today, I've learned that as soon as I start getting spots in my eyes, to quickly pound down 3-4 Excedrine Migraine pills, pull over the first opportunity I get, cover my eyes with something, and try to sleep. If I can't sleep from all the caffine in the pills, then I just keep my eyes closed until the spots go aways (normaly 30 minutes to 90 minutes). From there my head will still hurt with the slightest strain, but otherwise I'm good to go. I think changes in weather is what triggers my migraines.
