What qualifies as "lacking in power"? All the company trucks are governed to 62 mph so we all have the same top speed. Are you refering to how quickly we get to our top speed? That all depends on the loads we are carrying. Even my mentors Kenworth, which wasn't governed, was slower when it was loaded heavy compared to a light load or empty. My Freightliner is the same way. Just trying to understand. I'd like to have the chance to check out a Prostar. I think they are a cool looking truck. In my opinion, the best looking trucks out there are the purple Prostars, but I know looks aren't everything. The only real negative I've heard about the Prostars are that they are heavy, which limits you from some of the heavier loads. That's fine with me. I get paid the same whether it's heavy or light, and I prefer the lighter loads.

25k in the box and downshift 3 gears to climb hills in PA. but hey it could have just been the one I had. otherwise id drive them again, and maybe consider leasing one

Drove it to the house over the weekend, contracts werent ready yet. Ive got the silver 2010 eagle, and loving it so far. It is governed at 70, rides like a caddy as far as pulling, I'll let ya know tommorrow nite, got a preplan for a 40,ooo lb load texas to georgia . I had been wanting a prostar from day one lol, if they had given me one after soloing, I prolly wouldnt have leased....nawww i would have......BigT

If they're anything like my old freightshaker, they limit the top speed but even worse is that they turn them down also...meaning the rpm's are limited and turned down to save on fuel..I'm sure that they don't mess with them as much as GTI did cause they own 2 Freightliner dealerships and loved to mess with all those detroit's...Man that sucked...

thanks everyone for the information. that gives us some in site. i do have one more question on the 6 weeks training does that include if you went to swift trucking school also? and are they still paying 32 cents a mile. everyone have a safe week enjoy reading your updates

Sandy, it's three weeks at school, then up to six weeks (240 hours as Oldnewbie said) with a mentor. Once you go solo, starting pay is 25 cpm, but the raises come very quickly.

If there was ever a time a could be tempted to lease a truck, now would be the time.
I arrived at the Columbus terminal this afternoon to t-call a load and to sign the papers for the Sears account. I guess it is now official, although the first two loads they have planned me on are not Sears, but they are running me for a couple days before sending me home for some hometime, then I start on Sears next week. As I pulled thru the fuel islands here, standing straight ahead was a line of 4 Prostars and 2 Kenworths with a sign that said "truck sale".
When I got to the window, there is a sign describing a special promotion for leasing a used truck, something about getting $2500 off and whatever. Yeah, ok, whatever, I still can't afford to lease one and would probably go broke since I don't know enough yet to operate a truck profitably yet. (The idea is there in the back of my mind for someday, maybe.) The thing that interests me, that really tempts me, is two of the trucks are purple Prostars. I know, call me strange (I will admit to that), but I think those purple Prostars are about the best looking trucks on the road, next to a Lonestar. Almost tempted......
On to other news, I'm getting a new DM, but not by my choice. My old one was offered a position in the safety department and he accepted it. So while it is sad news for me, I'm happy for him. He's been a great DM, he's really helped me quite a bit, being a former driver himself he knows what it is like out here. But I wish him all the luck.
I will keep y'all posted on how it goes with the Sears account...when I have time. I hear it keeps you pretty busy.JustSonny and The Challenger Thank this. -
Having Mopar mixed in your blood makes you like the "Plum Crazy" trucks.
Now if I hear about you ever leasing a truck from any company I am going to whip you with a switch!

Plum crazy definately fits me to a T. Those Purple Prostars are the perfect color.
Don't worry Rug, a lease isn't in my future anytime soon.
Enjoying some much needed hometime. I really don't like those extended weeks out on the road. It gets to be so exhausting after the third week. Fortunately, with the Sears account, I should be home every weekend.
My new DM sent me home yesterday with a load that delivered early this morning. Finished and back home by 10am. Got today and tomorrow to relax...after the honey-do list is taken care of, of course.Civilservant, The Challenger and JustSonny Thank this.
