don't know what the law is, but they can refuse you a job if you don't have the required qualifications.

they used the analogy of TWIC and passport being "tools of the trade" just as a mechanic has to buy his own tools. I have my passport and ran in Canada exensively for TMC... I told them that since they didn't reimburse the cost of the TWIC, I had no intentions of getting it, and quit and went to a company that reimbursed me for obtaining my hazmat, no TWIC needed.

I left TMC about 3 months ago. I had my haz-mat but no twic or passport. Haz-Mat was a joke. $25.00 is all you got extra to haul it. all it was most of the time was the glue for rolled roofing. Wasn't worth the headache of hauling haz-mat for 25 bucks. As far as twic, i only went to one port where i needed it and TMC paid to have me escorted on and off port. I never had intentions of getting passport because i wasn't going to go to Canada. I told FM not to send me Haz-Mat loads due to the crap pay for the added responsibility, i wasn't going to haul them. Next load offered was a Haz-mat. i refused. set for a day but got my point across. I left due to problems at home, money could have been better but wasn't all that bad. Just gotta get a good FM. Kills me that they want you or us to pay for all this extra stuff but you wont see a return on your investment with what they pay. wish all of you the best there and all you guys staring good luck to you all. I used to lease to Yellowstone trucking out of Coeur D'Alene Id, TMC bought them shortly after I leased on. Things were fine for a while but they started doing weird things, like asking me to go to canada with a 265" wheel base tractor, or thinking id be happy to take a load of lumber 2100 miles at .95 a mile.

Having your TWIC card however is a good idea, as well as a passport.

Can any of you TMC drivers tell me how far west they operate? What I don't understand is how the states claim that they are short on money for roads and such. I live in Pa and it costs me $100 for the HazMat and to keep the "CDL" on my license it was 65 bucks. My pick up truck registration costs me 54 bucks each year. I wish I got money from people and could spend it any way that I wanted. :biggrin_25525:

TWIC cards are property of the Federal government and the individual is the only one legally allowed to possess them. No company, port, or other agency can LEGALLY lay claim to them......no matter who paid for the credential!
People really need to read and understand the info on the TSA website about TWIC.

For one I go to port tmc writes a comchech for 55 dollars I send the reciept in I don't wish to go back to canada ever again and I simply refuse to have a haz mat. And all I've ever been told is tmc would lime you to get it not mandate me to if the require it they should pay for it I only pay for things I want I don't waist my money on things for others I have a wife and 6 kids to take care of

Lots of great tips here much appreciated. I am waiting on school, but have already applied but not paid for twic and passport card. Hazmat is supposed to come through pia in wv. So guess I will wait and see, and pay for these two cards.

    hey their country 77!

a family friend of mine was with tmc and he refused to get his passport the twic card and his haz mat endorsement.

wish you the best of luck in your next job search when tmc fires you for not obtaining these three items.

and by the way are you in the long haul division i don't think you can refuse a load that goes into canada are you not under forced dispatched rules?

once again best of luck on the job search.
