Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)

you only need if it one of several things apply to you........

you will be working at shipping ports

you will be picking up/delivering at shipping ports

you will be going onto military bases

you will be going into warehouses that have high security.


procedure is almost like the hazmat.........

you fill out a form, you get finger-printed, you get a photo, you pay (this time) $135.00

a TWIC card is good for 5 years, and must be renewed. it can be taken away from you if you violate policies.

some employers require it

some employers prefer it

some employers don't care about it right now.

well in a way yes.........you would have gone thru homeland security checks, and FBI checks, so this would prove that you have a clean background

Get it, it will help you get a job even if you dont need it. The reason is you have to pass a ton of background checks to get it, so an employer knows if you have it, you are probably some one they can send almost anywhere they need to.

 

The military base at Port Hueneme in California does not require a TWIC card.

 

Some will and some wont, if the base is a logistics center where they constantly have trucks coming in, IE delivering food, uniforms, linens and other things of that nature for the troops, they will have less security requirements, where as other instalations, such as a proving grounds, or a fort where they have an ammunition depot will have much greater security requirements.

Expecially any place that has a lot of armorment or missiles ect.

 

The US Army proving grounds in Yuma, AZ doesn't require it. I deliever new GM trucks / SUV's there and they convert them into Border Patrol units. Your right about Hueneme, they have a truck gate, the sentry's there have the process under control. The TWIC is enforced by the US Coast Guard. Every time I've been carded, it was by the Coast Guard.

it doesn't hurt, just spend the money and get it.

 

check out the homeland security website, then find the place nearest you. it can take some time to get the card, for me, it was only 3 weeks, for others, it can be 10 weeks.........check to see if you also get discounted a few dollars since you just got your hazmat recently as well.
