Government auction, 2001 Volvo with trailer

You'd be begging for problems with that thing. I'd buy a million mile ten year old truck that worked every day before I bought that one. You'd probably be looking at new tires all around just for starters, those ten year old tires aren't going to stand up to regular use for long. I doubt that it's been maintained very well from the amount of rust on it for what little work it's done. Combine that with it being a Volvo with a Volvo engine, and I wouldn't pay much more than scrap value for it. It's at $40k right now, plus some bs 7.5% surcharge, so evidently someone disagrees with me.

 

With all due respect that's alot of equipment and if your buying stuff like that, tires ain't a real big issue. The 35 ton detach with tulsa winch is worth a pretty penny just by itself. The truck looks clean to me. Looks like all the body panels, and everything else is matching and straight. A little surface rust ain't gonna hurt anything. Personaly I hate driving those old Volvo's but they are easy to work on and that one looks like it has all it parts in it's original place. Heck even the steps haven't been bent up yet. Plus it looks like it has a wet kit. What it's worth, I don't know, but I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss it. For the right price that will probably make somebody a good contruction truck.

 

I was probably too quick to dismiss it as not being worth more than scrap value. I don't think the surface rust is an issue either, I'm just saying that it might be indicative of poor maintenance. The tires probably wouldn't be an issue to someone buying it for a construction business, but I think the all the tires, seals, air leaks, and electrical problems would be a nightmare setup for someone trying to start out a one man show. I think it has great potential to spend more time in the shop than the road the first couple of months if someone were to take it and immediately try to put 300 or more miles a day on it. I think more capable and reliable equipment could be purchased for the money. I know this is a little apples to oranges, but something like this would be a much better deal.

 

Agreed, even though the KW probably has way more hours on it, it's a KW, spec'd nicely and as long as the frame isn't tired, worthy of being rebuilt if need be. Likewise the trailer is very nicely spec'd.

 

Truck was state inspected and registered until coming Jan so it must have been in some what decent condition. But price got way too high too soon.
