how many loaded dumps are running that late? He's gotta be on his way to a job site. Maybe look at all the overnight road construction going on for that night.
-
It is a 40"-45" spread dump trailer -
Shouldn't be hard to find a 45" trailer....Unless he keeps it in the trunk of his car.
-
looks like a valley protein mudflap but the wouldnt be hauling gravel
-
Similar ... but not the valley protien logo. Thank you so much for a polite, thoughtful, and pertinent response.

I'm still trying to figure out how you knew he had a CAT engine and it was a C-15, the size of the air handler and probably a 2003/2004 but don't have any other markings.
Right there throws my suspicion, you not going to know what he had under the hood unless the hood was open. If he had a flat why would his hood be open? Tell me more about the spread axle since you know all about the tractor. Sorry but this smells.....
That late at night hauling gravel....check with construction companies during that time period. Besides mud flaps really aren't going to connect you to anyone...they are required by DOT and some don't care what they say as long as they are on. I have one on my truck that I got from my friend (he had a spare) because mine was gone. It has some trucking company on it that is now belly up....mud flaps aren't going to link you anywhere. -
yeah, i'm with you on this............smells funny............no one would know what was under the hood...............not even "Dick Tracy" himself. i think we are being mislead about this. if that was a picture from a cop car, the cop would have done some "talking" with the truck driver, including name, address, and employer for future contact.
i think this "Magmum PI" is looking for the driver to pin him on something. -
Anything I know about the truck... size engine, etc. I have been told by truckers and spoke with Peterbilt. Based on this picture... http://img291.imageshack.us/img291/1116/redpeterbiltthomaswilli.jpg.
If they are BSing me about knowing the size of the engine from the picture, I am sorry.. that is just what I was told.
What I know about the spread axle was told to me by truckers based on this picture
http://img90.imageshack.us/img90/6032/mudflap.jpg
The only reason I have this http://img291.imageshack.us/img291/1116/redpeterbiltthomaswilli.jpg picture of the truck is because the cop was photographing that huge piece of debris you see in the middle of the road and this guy's truck was parked on the side because of a flat. Believe me, I wish he had taken more pictures of the truck...but it was not involved in the accident, so he didn't. If the information I have about engine size, etc. is wrong... it is all I have because that is what truckers and Peterbilt told me based on the picture.

The truck only shows up by coincidence. The cops did not see a reason to photograph the truck or take any other information because the Peterbilt was not part of the incident. I agree that the police should have questioned him as a witness... but for whatever reason, they did not. So there is no report with his name or anything about him or the truck on it.
He may have actually been gone by time they got the man who was killed removed from his vehicle. I know that at one point they were waiting on two helicopters to bring people to the hospital (I have the audio recordings from dispatch/911). Sometimes trying to save lives gets put ahead of looking for and talking to witnesses. Based on the dash cam video... the wrecker driver that helped change the tire was already there when the mud flap video was taken and the scene was still total mess.
But I cannot pretend to understand why cops do what they do.

The above photo was taken from an dash board cam of a police cruiser. A cop was late arriving on the scene and drove around all of the debris in the road by going into the center median. That is why this view is from the other side. The video actually shot the rear and entire side of the truck,... but with emergency vehicle lights, and the foggers on the squad car shining on the truck, and really crappy video quality... EVERYTHING is washed out. The license plate is all white from glare and no other markings are identifiable. If I had any other markings or numbers or anything... I would share them with you. I want to find him.

I realize it is just a mud flap. I realize mud flaps go bad quickly and are replaced often. But this is the mud flap that was on the truck at the time.. ... The logo on the mud flap COULD be the trucking company or gravel company... anyother company that COULD at least tell me where he was working AT THE TIME. If I know that... then I can go to that place and figure out who was driving... and then find him and his whereabouts NOW.
You are completely correct that the mud flap could be for anything... but it also COULD be the key finding him.

I am in Atlanta.. this happened in Madison. I have made contact with several gravel companies over the phone with no lucj and today am going out there to spend the next few days to see what I can dig up. I was hoping that the identification of the mud flap would make visiting random gravel companies, etc. unneccessary. But since I cannot get it identified, I will be out there poking around... But I also do realize that the truck did not have to be from Madison so poking around in Madison may not lead to him... which brings me back to hoping the mud flap has a company logo on it.
The guy was there when someone was killed in a terrible traffic accident. Threre were two vehicle involved. His truck was not one of them. If it were... I would know exactly who he is. He is not in any trouble... but I think he can be of great HELP.
Can anyone please help me identify this mud flap??

I'm afraid you have very little chance at getting to this driver at this late date. I know what is done is done, but it would have been better had the scumbag er lawyer you are working for had got on the case right away and put you on it then.
I realize that you are just trying to do the job you are paid to do. Don't pay a lot of attention to the folks who are giving you garbage on here. You are doing what you have to do, to try to get your job done.
Those mud flaps could be advertising anything from a trucking company to a truck stop to a truck wash to a truck dealership. There aren't a whole lot of aggregate haulers who are going to spend the money to have their mud flaps engraved with the company name or logo.
Also anybody who looks at the right front fender of a tractor and tries to tell you what engine it has in it, is just blowing smoke up your arse.
