Sound's like tax invasion and fraud to me. I would have quietly called a government official to investigate. They would have tore him a new ###.

Are there any official rules & regulations controlling the unloading responsibility process and the amount of time that a truck may be kept waiting to be unloaded. Where can I get the rules or who can I call?

For the company driver that the company pays, why do you are about lumper fees? When I drove OTR I didn't care the about the cost, I got the info the company need and had a com check issued.

Lumpers are nothing but a big circle jerk on the gov't. Driver pays the lumper and takes it off taxes. Carrier pays driver and takes it off taxes. Shipper pays carrier and takes it off taxes. Receiver pays shipper and takes it off taxes. Only difference between company driver and independent is one less person to take it off taxes. By the time that $250 goes all the way around the circle, over $500 has been deducted from various entities' taxes.

Problemis when the independent driver/operator doesn't get reimbursed that $250...which, if anyone's going to get hosed in the process, it will be the driver. Hopefully that driver wasn't counting on that money to fill his blood pressure prescription...because now he's going to have to wait 30 to 90 days for reimbursement.

It's nothing but a big racket perpetrated against the purchasing public. Because they are the ones who pay for it in the end.

Just go in and ask them for the tax id number. Then say you will pull it yourself....There you go extra cash in your hands. Some lumpers will not use tax # they use SSN. In that case just make one up, most lumpers dont give out their real SSN in the first place. All the company wants is some number for the books.

ne chance i get i ul myself

i have a seperate taxid# that i use set up under my olllld business from years ago imo its what they want thats what they get and most lumpers i see are illegals and if i can prove it shortly after my trailer is unlded the proper authorities are notified.. point blank

and the reason all this started this way for me is because i was being charged 400 dollars to take 20 pallets off the back of my truck in las angels at a meat distributor and i knew for a fact they were illegal and working for a lil no name company that i checked out and turned in when the tax id numbers didnt correspond. i will not be taken for a fool especially by someone that doesnt have a legal right to even be in our country..

the other day i called a dockworker a ##### he got all bent out of shape i asked him if he was a american citizen he said no i told him my words stand then if he was a citizen i wouldnt have called him a ##### i do know speak and read spanish fluently so when he was talking to his other illegal friend he was talking how we were all stupid and what not when it comes down to it when he turned purple after i caught him in it he abruptly walked away.

A ssn is can be the tax id number. If a company is a sole proprietor then the owner which very well maybe the lumper can use the ssn.

I used to just take down the info never felt it was my problem to verify information.
