I have been unemployed for 14 months no fault of my own, I have been a construction manager for over 20 years and the industry has tanked,I have a small remodeling business which I get paid mainly cash..
I have sister in law and her husband who started with Con-Way about 2 years ago. They were restuarant owners and decided to do the trucking thing as a team. They now own their own rig and work for Landstar and love it .They have convinced me to try trucking as a career as the construction industry is shot for now.

My problem is that I chose the Con-Way school in Mo. upon thier suggestions but have been turned down because of my 14 months of unemployment.I was going to pay for my own schooling, but was completly stunned when I was rejected.

I really did not want to go to a company sponsered school where you are obligated for a year or so.

Where do I go from here ?

you can get your cdl from a third party school but make sure you INVESTIGATE them before you go there. Make sure they are acredited with the DOT and the FMSCA

GOSH! Church? I dont know. There are aabout 3000 companies that would probably consider you. Get applying, get a job, any job and then worry about trucking, it stinks anyway.

The only issue I have with that is the cost (about $3500 upfront) and the uncertainy of a job upon graduation. A company sponsered school would be the way to go for me ,however I have heard some bad things about these schools/companies. Any suggestions would help.

    Thanks , T
