Reinstating an old authority or start new

You could call one of the companies that do the paper work for getting your authority, and ask what the costs and time amount is for them to get you started doing it each way. I think they should be able to let you know of any advantages or disadvantages of each choice also. (or not. then call another if needed) It could possibly, don't know, be faster to get your authority that way. But that would be your only advantage. You still gotta take the time to get the many other required items in order.

 

I used OOIDA, the total cost was $600 and they took care of everything. It takes close to a month after you get your insurance posted for your authority to become active.

 

It's pretty easy to do it yourself and not have to fork out the extra money.

 

Get your own authority, is pretty cheap and easy, just make sure you do everything your self, permit company's will charge ridiculous amounts of money for them to do it for you. You can get your USDOT# and MC# and EIN, in less then 20 minutes over the internet for free! Those so called companys that help you will charge $200-$600!!! So just be smart about it, research and ask. Call fmcsa and the dot, they will give lots of useful information. Lots of sites will try to trick you and confuse into believing you need them to get a certain form completed, when most forms can be downloaded on the internet and electroniclly submited and for little or no charge.
