I was going to apply at Swift but they were not taking people from NY at this time. So I talked to a recruiter at Central today. She said to call back after I filled out my app. I did and got her voice mail. Still waiting for a call back. Been a few hours. Guess I probably wont hear anything till Monday now. Not trying to be impatient but I been out of work for about a month now and Im anxious to get the ball rolling.

Just finished my class today, and I have my ticket to go to Fontana on Sunday night, so I can take my CDL test and go through orientation then go out with a trainer. Excited!

So I have been reading this thread since page 1 up to 251. Its a great thread but my eyes are about to pop out. I just wanted to know more about the refresher course. Like how much it cost, how long is class and how long is the driver training. I have six months experience about a year and half ago. Tried to get back on with my old company but was out of the truck to long and they wanted to me to take the class over again. Not going to pay $5k when I already have my CDL. I have also applied at May, so anyone with experience with both companys give me some feed back would be great. Thanks and be safe.

I'm not one hundred percent sure on refresher, but I think its the same as training.. But I remeber a year ago my bud took the refresher and it was school essentially.. Exept he didn't do the training pad.. But opted to do it anyways.. So he could have went with a trainer right at the get go.. He said he was having to pay for the whole thing.. But he had to go lease op.. At the time central said that was the only way they'd take him with exp. All I know about may is their dog slow.. Like 60mph max..

I worked for May back in 2007. For the most part they are a decent company. I didn't like their idle policy. I drove on the refer side, they have a western region 14' ft high van side also.

    Hope this helps.:biggrin_2556:

Whats up Willis? I like my volvo! Wouldn't call it a sweet ride, but the only reason I dont pass up more people is called a gov'nor. Oh the joys of a company driver! Especially when stuff happens.:biggrin_25522:

Hello, I'm new to trucking, I am going to start school in the Fontana school next month, I already have my CDL, so it will be for two weeks only, I have a question for anyone who went thru this process, How far back does Central go into the criminal check, and do they get access to the juvenile records?

Most juvenile records are sealed. I don't think you have anything in that time of you live to worry about. But then again I have been surprised about some of the things these company's look at.

I'm also from NY, near Albany. Starting class in Buffalo on the 6th. Recruiting had me talk with Mario, he is recruiting for that school. It is not a Central school, as I understand it. But you get 4 weeks of training instead of their standard 2 weeks and they still pay for it just the same. Then down to Atlanta for 5 weeks with a trainer.

I had a hard time getting anyone to call me back from central. I just kept calling. It is better if you can get the direct number for your recruiter so you don't have to go through the phone bank. You have to keep on them, it seems they are probably under staffed. Good luck.
