As long as you do no work you can reset! NO putting the truck in the shop, no working on the truck, no fueling the truck & no delivering loads!
Just be you for 34 hours (no drinking or drugs though). l.o.l.
34 just means you can not do any work being lines 3 or 4! If found to be working the 34 will be invalid.

Our company automatically gives you a card that allows you up to 90 minutes to use for meal breaks/personal time. This way if ever asked why you are off duty while under a load you can show them the card proving you can log off duty. This is not a requirement and most officers do not question you being off duty, but if using a 10 hour break as off duty may ask for a hotel receipt or where you was sleeping. Technically while under a load you are on lines 2,3 or 4. We all know you need to eat etc. but the company if they don't give you permission you the driver could be held accountable for that load/truck while eating your lunch in the truck stop.
Question 2: What conditions must be met for a CMV driver to record meal and other routine stops made during a tour of duty as off-duty time?
Guidance: 1. The driver must have been relieved of all duty and responsibility for the care and custody of the vehicle, its accessories, and any cargo or passengers it may be carrying.
2. The duration of the driver's relief from duty must be a finite period of time which is of sufficient duration to ensure that the accumulated fatigue resulting from operating a CMV will be significantly reduced.
3. If the driver has been relieved from duty, as noted in (1) above, the duration of the relief from duty must have been made known to the driver prior to the driver's departure in written instructions from the employer. There are no record retention requirements for these instructions on board a vehicle or at a motor carrier's principal place of business.
Having the pre-printed card covers all the above. The #2, most companies go with 30 minutes or longer. -
Weird Logs, that 'card' sounds like the one I got at Covenant, except I don't think it was good for 90mins, maybe just 30 or 60.

Thanks Logs. I haven't yet digested the all the regs pertaining to emergency conditions, but I will (as best I'm able). What I originally intended to find out with this thread was something like, "Can i really go to Disney land on my reset, and what do I do with the truck ?" And I think I got a resounding "NO!". So thanks again to all that replied. But back to the guidance for said emergency conditions where it says something to the effect (still work'n on that quote thing)... " a driver shouldn't wait until the last few minutes of his 10 (should be 11?) available hours to decide where to take their layover (sleeper)... Let me ask you, why do they assume a driver waits until the last few minutes to decide where to sleep? If the sleeper is planned at the beginning of the driver's day as it should be, and they find it full when they arrive, what is a driver supposed to do? Seriously?... Now I can see if a driver gets caught past an available spot after they're out of hours. By all means nail 'em. But if i plan my sleeper and it's full, what choice do i really have, know what I mean? Two other things I want to quickly mention... I will have to drive many, many miles to be able to afford Outback, even though pretty good as I remember. And I'm throwing in the towel on Split breaks as it seems even the most knowledgeable and experienced among us are divided on this rule. I'm not out yet, just reloading for now. Thanks!

Driver, and it's just that i can see this scenario playing out and want to avoid problems. So if you don't have anything of value to add, maybe you should just let it go. Or maybe you were just trying to be funny?

You can do whatever you want on your 34 just don't work! Disney is work, but you are doing it for your pleasure
Yes I understand what you mean about the truck stops being full. DOT does not care! Truck drivers get to know the stops and which ones will be full at what time etc. Now he might give a newbie a break. I will add a BIG MIGHT to that. You are supposed to plan 2-3 stops prior to your time to being up. Many drivers try to use this as an excuse so therefore they have put a stop to that exscuse
To your last two questions: Oh you can splurge $20.00 for a meal for you! You deserve it! IT'S GREAT FOOD!
Split breaking is a great tool and if a driver chooses not to use it that is his/her prerogative
