I was sitting more at the end then I was when I started with Roehl. Hometime fleet was the main reason I stayed with them a year and half. My last dispatcher was ok guy , but weekend dispatch. Well I just don't have anything to say about them. I think that they make their money off of turning over drivers as much as they make it off of moving freight.

Roehl has always had a problem understanding that without drivers they don't exist as a transportation company. It has been my experience over the past 5+ years that they have no problem throwing their drivers under the bus when issues arise. They also have a fast food attitude toward driver retention. If you don't like it here go elsewhere, but they never realize that drivers can find better companies quicker than they can replace a driver. It is very expensive to recruit, train and finally get a driver into the left seat. As a driver it takes a year to really get a grasp of how to do this job, so Roehl is in the hole anytime a driver lasts less than that.

Detention. The new "D" word.
After being stiffed time and again on detention I finally gave up trying to get it. After years working here I knew exactly what I had to do to get detention and made sure I jumped through all the hoops. Time and time again it was still denied.
My solution? I stopped marking my in and out times on the bills in a detention situation! If they're not going to give it to me they're not going to get it either.Projektf350 and 900,000-tons-of-steel Thank this. -
That is what I should have done. They stiffed me 98% of the time on Detention. It was just one more reason why I left. Now that I am hourly I get paid for sitting.

Something is definitely weird with detention with this company. I've had instances where my FM can't even get answers from payroll why it wasn't paid.
Bayle Thanks this. -
Yeah, I gave up months ago too.

I asked for 1 hour (after over three hours siting) and got nothing. Last time I got it was for 3 hours after sitting 5 1/2 but it took over three weeks and several calls to get paid. Still going to ask for it if I'm sitting over four hours but not worth the 'fight' for less than that. If I don't write the in/out time on the BOL they won't get it then either, right?

Roehl has set this up so that they can advertise that they pay detention but then have so many hoops to jump through IN SEQUENCE, mind you, that one mistake invalidates your claim. Often they just ignore your claim hoping you don't notice.
I studied their detention rules and followed them to the letter. I was still denied many times with no recourse. I drove reefer there so you know there was plenty of detention claims.
It it was driving me nuts and it was this that started me first thinking I should move on. You got drivers struggling to pay their bills and keep their families together. Along comes Roehl and stiffs them out of $10!!!
TEN BUCKS!
i consider that immoral. I didn't want to work for an immoral company any more.
If you do not put in and out times on the bills Roehl cannot collect it from the shipper/consignee. Just remember every time they stiff you out of detention, THEY are getting paid if you put the times on the bills.
I finally grew tired of stressing over getting paid detention and arguing validity. The last two years I stopped putting times on the bills in detention situations and quit suffering the frustration and stress. -
Times are on your arrived and loaded/empty calls, so I'm sure they'll still get it.Projektf350 Thanks this.
