I know only too well what you mean. I got dinged for over 10 grand. It was one of the things that put me under and cost me everything I owned.

Lawyer? The carrier was owned by a family of multi-millionaires who are very politically connected. Under the Canadian legal system I was told it would be at least 10 yrs in court. If I could find a lawyer who would take the case. If the case wasn't thrown out of court. If they didn't counter sue me. If, if, if. Even if I won, it would cost me several times the 10 grand and I would be black listed everywhere.

What's political connections worth? A couple of years later the "listed owner" got caught importing drugs on his private jet. Never spent day one behind bars and the plane was returned to the family (presumably washed, waxed and fuelled) within a week.

I love these 'truck driver" stories! IF this was the truth then wouldn't we post a link to the news story?

I know, I know, the press swept it under the rug for a brick of coke and a case of whiskey!

This kind of crap goes on all the time, most of the victims are O/O like yourselves. Unfortunately there isn't a whole lot you can do that would not cost you a fortune. We have tried going after a few unscrupulous brokers and carriers in the past with very limited success, yes even guys who have been in the biz for 30 years get screwed occasionally. It seems that the legal authorities have such full plate that in their minds it isn't that big of a deal, even though it may be a breaking point for you. I have been through this a few times so I can sympathize. My advice is to get your own authority and go do your own thing. I now run a dispatch service along with the trucking business and the guys I do the dispatching for are doing quite well. They have a variety of equipment and it seems that the stepdecks are doing the best with them averaging $1.60 or better( most loads pay $2 mile). Even the hotshot guys are averaging $1.25 or better. I would love to drum up more business but that is not why I posted this. I would try to get my money out of them but it all depends on how much you want to sacrifice to do that. My advice is to chalk it up as a bad learning experience and do something that will allow you to control your own finances as far as getting loads are concerned. Good luck my friends, keep the shiny side up

Iam a really nice guy, but after growing up in chi-town in a kill or br killed enviroment, you learn real quick. I am no longer in that town or in that situation. I could write a book on what I saw & dealt with in those day's. I have challenged people court wise even when it cost me more than what they owed me, just to try & keep them from trying it again on someone else. that is what these crooks count on. no one going after them legally cause of the cost involved. I would pay $12,000 to go after a $9000 debt. a conviction on their record to me is worth it. if every one pursued these crooks every time they tried this, they may get jail time sooner & save more victoms from being ripped off. they do this knowing the response from lawyers is going to be.... it will cost more in legal fees than what they owe you. if I spend money on something I realize later was something wastefull, I think about it for months. if some one stole 9 grand from me... I would never forget it & neither would they!:biggrin_25525:

No azzhat, you wanna go look it up from 18 yrs ago, be my guest. Sorry I didn't keep all the paperwork for your sanctimonious butt to review. If I'd known you was God I would have.

But then, you see I didn't expect to be called a liar by some twit on a website.
