3406E Wiring Vs. 3406B

    What is the difference in wiring between the 3406E and the 3406B, I know it has to go to the computer, but is it all one one harness, or would putting an E model engine in a truck that was originally a B model be a nightmare?

    Mr. Haney, you are the man!

    Now seeing that I wonder how bad of a deal it would be to stick a 3406E into a newer KW 06+

    I have seen a couple of W-9's with C12's in em for not too much money. Think it would be a wiring nightmare?

    The problem with the newer trucks is that the electronic dash needs to be able to communicate with the engine ECM and the ABS, along with all the extra sensors for the gauges to work properly.

    The C-12 to C-15 conversion would be very easy as far as wiring goes, they are the same as long as you stay with the same type of ECM......40 pin truck to 40 pin ECM.........if you try to go with a 70 pin truck and a 40 pin ECM, you'll have to make a conversion wiring harness or buy it from Mawk, now the 40 pin truck to 70 pin ECM CAT makes a harness along with Mawk

    The biggest problem with doing the 3406B-Model to an electronic 3406E or C-15 is the cooling system and aftercooler, they'll both will need to be upgraded. I have a friend with an older KW 900A that had a 3406A in it. He ended up using a radiator and aftercooler from a Freightliner to get it to fit in his grill opening. He's very happy with the conversion since he did it........gained 1 mpg and roughly 400 hp

    There is no problem converting a truck to an electronic engine or to a newer generation. As far as electronic dash's go, as long as you use atleast a 70 pin ecm you will not have any communication issues associated with the new multiplex dash's. Here's a couple conversions we have done in the past.

    Nice. I think im gonna wind up buying a 90-2000 tractor, and going to put the 2001-2006 dash shell in it, that way I have the convinance of a dash that still opens easy to be worked on, and the simplicity of being able to stick with the wiring harness already in the truck.

    I put a 2000 e-model in a 1990 pete. It wasn't bad at all after a little research. I didn't buy Mawks harness for $900(I think thats what he wanted), I just found a old 70 pin engine to truck harness, found a wiring diagram and figured out which wires I needed and pulled the rest out of the plug. Basicaly I just hooked up enough to make it run(jakes,cruise,power,warning lights, etc), and left all the rest original(speedo, temps, etc). I did have to do a little welding on the rear motor mounts to get the engine to set back just a little(it was too close to the radiator.) Best money I ever spent, no comparison between the b model and e model.

    I appriciate the info. I am noticing there is a world of difference between the price of a truck with a B/C model and an E model.
