When i started with this new place this week, they wanted me to take a auto out, i took it for a drive and came back and said, not on your life, give me at least a 10 speed. It just did feel like it would give you much control in the winter, it shifted when it wanted, and the shifts seemed pretty hard if it was on a slick road. But then agin, i have been wrrroorooonnnnngg before, man thats hard to say.lol

Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

I wasn't too impressed with my botail test drive of my truck with Autoshift. Hooking a trailer onto it makes a world of difference. I love my Autoshift.
-
Double clutch???????? What's that????? ROFLMAOAussie Truckie and truckermario Thank this. -
My thoughts exactly. I do not want a transmission to do anything until I "tell it to".
I am told oh you can override it......well maybe so. Noone drives that truck but the driver. They so "oh you will love it", No I won't! I have heard stories of it not shifting, then shifting when you don't need a gear. I think they are dangerous. -
That is a bunch of hog wash! -
and why is it hogwash?
-
I have three key things I want absolute control over when I drive. My following distance,my speed, and the gear I am in. I will not allow anyone but me, the driver to determine anyone of them. Hogwash that!

Wait until you're actually a driver till you start critiquing. Eaton Fuller 10 spd is exact same tranny as autoshift. You CAN select any gear you like. You can manually shift it. They can be frustrating. And they are used mainly for newbies to keep them from acting like Billy Bad ### driver and destroying tens of thousands of dollars in parts. I guarantee if they offer you the right money to drive one you'll be sitting there. They have some good points and also some bad ones. Main problem I ever had was too slow to downshift on long grade. Then instead of 9th would eventually wind up in 8th or even 7th. No big deal. Just flip to manual and shift when I know it needs to. Tough on the fingers though.
Wait about 10 yrs and you will have good idea of what you really like. There are a bunch out there. 8LL, 9LL, 15, 13, 18, and many more. All made for some reason or other.
Gears Thanks this. -
Hog Wash isn't that a place where they wash Pigs?

can we say synchronized?
