Smart move.
Get a letter saying you worked for someone and have it on file somewhere.
And in the process, admitting you never filed tax returns on the income on a public forum.
is under the table work considered verifiable

Is this response directed towards me? Or the thread starter?
I just started a new business this year haven't had to yet its not the end of the year.
I have a CPA take care of my taxes.
If not no harm intended just trying to be helpful.......
To someone who might not be business minded or has never been self employed -
To the OP.
-
yeah, i guess i need to worry now about feds crashing down my door. geez, wtf, dude, no one where or who i am.... duh
-
Just trying to let you know the liability you have with admitting this.
You are telling the company this and they will have the infomation in their files.
You are more trusting than I would be.
It might be wiser to have the letter note that you were working with your father and not mention anything about payment. -
i appreciate what your saying but i am not telling the company anything. i am telling you, someone anonymous on a trucking forum and you have no idea who i am or where i live, and neither will the "company". anyway, if the company was so worried, which they are not, about me paying taxes, they would have given me the proper tax forms. (1099) i am not that dumb, i didn't put any identifying info on my bio, besides, when i am gettin paid cash, there is no proof of anything. no paperwork or anything. so even if they found this and confronted me, i would put my hands up and say "prove it" so, ummm yeah
-
anyway, your last line was a good idea. i could say i was working with no money exchanged to pay my rent or something
-
Just so you know.
I am an enrolled agent to practice before the IRS. I have the obligation to report non filers.
You will have to wonder whether I did or not.
How do you think they find the people exchanging music and such.
Second, you can be found if they really want to find you.
Third, I do not care what you think or whatever. I was only trying point something out. -
I would remember only one thing in the future.
If it is not written down, it did not happen.
Otherwise, you can just do as you want and try to not ask for advice. -
sure you are. that's why you are on a trucking forum. i guess its normal for IRS agents to be on trucking forums and call themselves "roadmedic"
