why not do the gravel in the summer---be at home ride your bike--then in the winter go otr
i know lots of farmers do this to supplement there income--
another plus would be--you arent at home to shovel the #### snow

11,000 a month? Probably not going to be home on the weekands. Sorry driver, I didn't catch if you were already on the road now, but if you aren't it's rare to be gone just two weeks as an otr driver. Your post sounds like you got this from a recruiter. I am not doubting the 11,000 a month but you will most likely be out for a month. I saw something about .41 cents a mile. That is extremely high for a new driver. Once again, sounds like someone is trying to recruit or talk you into something. If you have the option of being a local driver and you have a family I would personally most definitely grab that local job. You may last a few months over the road but when you (and your family) decide it really sucks, that local job probably isn't going to be there. Watch out for recruiters they are most of the time full of bullsh@t! You have to remember they get paid by getting you to orientation. Good luck, go grab that local gig before someone else does!

Doesn't sound like the right move driver..Might stay out there until you can find a regular ,steady local gig..

    Good luck..

sorry to burst your bubble chompi--41 isnt that high in canada--its average--his picks and drops are a bit low--
and you dont really have the recuiter problem in canada as in the states---not as many huge companys--
it seems most places --everybody gets the same pay--wether newbie or 20 yrs on the road
the labour laws are very srict in canada--so there isnt the same driver abuse
still lots of crappy companys tho---just in a different way

i am not a new driver...three years OTR. yes its .41 and yes i am home every other weekend. Home fridays leave monday mornings and run LONG and hard in between. What i typed is what i get...no tricks and amazing owner ops i drive for. And that canada truck driver is right...recruiters here in canada are not the same as in the states.

.41 is good pay in the US. Sorry though I started posting and forgot to check your stats. .41 would be great for a new driver. As for your current position you have a pretty good otr gig. Definitely a tough choice! Stay out and provide good for the family or come home to be with them and take a pay cut. I feel for you driver. Good luck to you.

Get the debt paid off, bank some good cash, then if you want to change jobs, do it.
If you change jobs in debt, you will just get in more debt. That puts a strain on the marriage. If she loves you now, she'll love you more, with the bills off your shoulders. Debt is the biggest thing that causes divorce.

i totally agree Gitty...thanks for the tip. although diesel is in the blood and its great being a paid tourist its hell being away from my sexy wife and great daughters. But i think your right...work like nuts, pay off some debt and get off the highway to something local...even if it takes another year. My wife is very supportive and loyal...she understands the job and said she can take it till the debts are paid down or off. thanks everyone. see you out there...name is "shrek" on the road.
