OK, I know you're going to hate this idea, but I'm thinking about soups. Like Chunky soups, that sort of thing. Light, cheap, portable, easy to heat up in a pot in a truck. Good hot comfort food. Healthier than the Flying J buffet, eh?

What do you think?

Do health food stores carry better canned soups?

What about hummus and bagle chips? I could eat that stuff all day ....:biggrin_2551:

Trickortruck, I don't hate that idea and actually thats not a bad question. Canned soups can be a good addition to a healthy diet. You just have to be cautious and read the labels as most canned soups are loaded with sodium and preservatives.
I'm personally am not big on canned soups, but I do know that Chunky soups just came out with a line of soups aimed at the health consious consumers. They are said to have very low sodium content more protein and less fat. I've read that certain Progesso soups are also lower in sodium and offer more healthy options.
I suggest that you read the nutritional facts labels and shy away from any soups with a high sodium content. If you've got a fridge in the truck and a little time on the weekends, cook a big pot of homemade stew and store it in a tupperware container. Fresh meats and veggi's, are alot healthier(not loaded with preservatives) and will no doubt will taste better. I will every blue moon on a cold day knock down a cup of Wendy's chili, its loaded with protein and warms the insides.
Oh yeah, the bagel chips are fine as long as they're whole grain(which means that it still has all of the good stuff in it). Good luck and eat healthy.

Hey Trickortruck, I will be honest and admit that until you asked me, I had never of hummus, and I asked a buddy about it. Its all natural, has no preservatives, no cholesterol, no dairy, no saturated fat,no sugar and is high in protein and fiber. I can't beleive that I've never heard of it or have never tried it, it sounds like the perfect food. How does it taste? Where can I buy it?

I learn something new everyday. Thank you Trickortruck

Thanks lil' dady!

Hummus is great! It's hard to say what it "tastes like," exactly ... sorta like bean spread, like you put on Doritos, with garlic. You can find it at any Greek or Mediterranian resturant -- if they sell falafels or kababs, they sell hummus. I absolutely love it.

Thanks for the advice on the soups. How much is "too much" sodium? Is there a certain percentage, or # of grams I should look for?

I've had my CDL for only 3 weeks, and this food is killing me. Thanks for encouraging a better diet!:yes2557:

Hey trickortruck,
Look at the nutritional facts label and if the sodium percentage is higher than all the other percentages, then it's high in sodium. The higher its percentage, the more sodium it contains. Always look at the nutrional facts labels. They don't lie. I'm going to try some of that hummas,it sounds great. Thanks

Not really.

I never got offered my own show on the Food Network next to Emril, but I do know a little bit about food.

Corn Syrup, or High Fructose corn syrup came on the scene in the 70's. And it is no coincidence that Americans have been getting larger ever since. It is cheaper then sugar to produce, but more importantly it is quite durable.

It is not an organic substance.
Or, your system has no idea what to do with this stuff.

http://www.westonaprice.org/modernfood/highfructose.html

Look through your fridge. Corn syrup is going to be the first or second ingredient in everything but the pickles. Cambels tomato soup? Second ingredient.

The third ingredient on just about everything in your house will be MSG.

Europeans use hardy any of this crap, so they don't have the problems we do.

http://www.rense.com/general67/msg.htm

If you eliminate these two ingredients from your shopping cart, the grocery store will become quite tiny.

Hummus is just a mix of garbanzo beans(chik peas), tahini (sesame seed paste, looks like peanut butter) lemon juice and garlic.

I started offering this in the restaurant I had back in the late 90's as a substitute for butter when dairy prices spiked. I would say about 95% of my guests loved it. It had more flavor then butter, and they could go nuts with it, guilt free.

If you have a decent sized food processor you can make buckets of it for pennies.

I would be shocked if you can't find tahini in a health food store.

 Opps, I should have read this thread from the beginning. Looks like I am repeating Lil Daddy with HFCS.

I have a book by an MD, called Eat Right for Your Blood Type. He breaks it down into the four different blood types. Which for me, makes a lot of sense.

If Atkins, "carbs are the devil" theory is correct, then Asians should be the most obese people on the planet.

D'Adamo (the author) picks up on a theory his father started. Some foods are extremely beneficial to some blood types. And some are actually detrimental to your specific blood type.

His theory's have proved correct for me personally.

Another thing I have found to be true, is that your system will tell you what is good for you.

Contrary to the ads on television, if you get heartburn from something, your system is not telling you that you have a Tums deficiency. It's telling you "no".

If you get a migraine, it's not because you are deficient in Advil. For me it's usually the diuretic properties in the coffee I just drank, leeching out minerals in my system.

Also, (and maybe most important)if you break wind, and the county Haz Mat team is called to your location. Your system is having some real issues with what you just ate.So you should not eat what ever that was, again.

And these are just my own opinions....

Have you ever seen a Weight Bench that folds down enough to be bungied to the catwalk or backside of the truck? I too lift in my truck and often I pull around back of shopping malls where it is quiet and lift outside the truck, but I could do so much more with a bench. Any ideas?

P.S. I bought a 100lb free weight set that comes in a black plastic carry case with wheels. It is about 5' long-10 inches wide and 4 inches high...easily gets bungied on my catwalk and sometimes under my bunk.

cost $55 at walmart.:biggrin_2552:
