Seeing that ALL have voted either:
    Has it's up and downs
    ...or:
Rather diffuse a nuclear warhead-Takes Skill, Patience, and alot of Nerve

...I would have to say it is somewhere between average and below.

And, this is coming from US, the drivers. The general public really has no concept of what it is we do to arrive in a safe manner AND to help ensure that THEY arrive in a safe manner. In reality, I think all warning labels should be removed from everything. If ppl are too stupid to not kill themselves because they lack common sense, great! Although, common sense seems to no longer be common.

You have to have a short memory in this line of work. The incidents we see from mile to mile must be left there. Because just up ahead something else will happen. When you have the total day hades; you've got to be able to take a deep breath, get some sleep and forget it. Tommorrow is a new day. make sense? works for me

I have talked to many people who don't drive trucks and they think that we are out here having all this fun like a tourist. I have met many new drivers who came into the industry because they thought it was like that and they were disappointed when they realized it was not.

We have to work longer hours than most other jobs, we spend more time away from home, it is a very stressful job, We have to deal with lack of sleep, rude shippers/recievers, everybody treats us like a second class citizen, we have to deal with traffic, it is a potentially dangerous job, accidents happen all the time, and it is hard on your health.

Truckerjo I think you said it best, I can't top that one

Pain in the butt sometimes? Yes. Hard? Not at all. I sometimes can't believe thay pay me to do it. If it was hard work, there wouldn't be so many of us overweight drivers out there.

Back when I was pretty new to trucking. Was on a run to Salt Lake when they were getting ready for the Olimpics. The exit number I needed was no longer there. Doing a lot of cussing and fussing on the CB about my problem, when (by his voice) an old black driver keyed up and said, "Driver if you don't take this too serious it can be a lot of fun". He made my day, nothing to do but laugh. Best advice I've ever been given.

Easiest job I've ever had. Also the funnest job I've ever had. It just doesn't seem like a real job to me.

If I get stuck loading/unloading for a long time, I just bust out my laptop and start playing videos game. Most of the time, I'm in my underwear cruising at 70 MPH listening to my favorite music at (cpm) $23.10 an hour. If the traffic is slow or bad I just roll down my window and check out all the hot women. Also, lots of very, very interesting people (mainly criminals) at some of the most interesting truckstops.

I get to see my mother at least once a month now, and I also see friends I haven't seen in years (before I started trucking).

I live an adolescent fantasy, a demented oddysey.

In fact, I've never held a job longer than trucking, with the ominous exception of the U.S. Army. And I would have quit the Army ten thousand times if I had the chance.

Its really easy if you do your homework and plan everything,if not, your not with the right company or not planning your whole trip right. I have found it so much easier with a laptop,I can plan my stops for fuel, showers and eats and know just about my eta. Don't let anybody get to you, load not ready, jump into bed and set the alarm for an hour or two. It all works out sooner or later, your life and health and family is all you really have, material things really don't matter in the end. Live life to the fullest, treat people good and that man upstairs will shine on down. Like I said a million times,it ain't like workin if you do it right.Be on time when possible and keep your bosses happy.
