Does anyone know where I can find a standardized, easy to read, preventative maintenance schedule that would apply to most semi trucks. I've got Peterbilts, Kenworth's, Western Stars and a Mack. I manage these trucks but came into the company later and no one seems to know where the maintenance charts are. I've tried to get in touch with some of the manufactureres and some of what I've found seems a bit over complex. I'd like something general like the oil and filter gets changed at X miles, the Fuel filter at X miles, the coolant system is flushed at x miles, etc.... Thanks.

I could be wrong but I dont think there are too many guys on here maintaining more than 2 or 3 trucks tops. And if you maintain trucks to my standards you'd probably get fired for spending too much money but here's how I do my one truck show. I average 3000 on highway miles a week. I use Rotella dino oil and change it and the filter (CAT filter) no less than every 10k miles no more than 12k miles. That always has me under 300 hrs on my intervals which is the maximum CAT says to go with oil. I clean the primary fuel filter screen at this time and change the secondary. I grease with Mobil synthetic and do the driveshafts once a week. Everything else gets greased every two weeks with the exception of throwout bearing which gets one shot of grease once a month. I throw away and replace my air filter (Donaldson) at 50k miles or sooner if I feel it needs to go. This works for me. A fleet I drove for at one time did 25k fuel filter oil change intervals (dino oil), 12.5k mile grease intervals, and annually with air filters. It worked for them because they leased new and traded in at 500k miles so worn out ujoints and the likes were the next owner's problems. Hope it helped..

I flushed my coolant when I bought (used) and put extended life coolant in, gets checked with test strips when I change the oil, but it should be just fine for several years. I run the overhead every 100k miles. The fleet trucks never had the overhead ran. It was a cost saving measure that probably didnt save anything imo. Doesnt take that much time to do and keeps the engine running efficiently.

I change my oil and filters every 10-12,000 miles. I grease my truck once a week.

I change Engine Oil and Oil filter every 15 to 20,000 km, fuel filter every 15 to 20,000km, and grease entire truck once a month with a 5% Molybdenum Disulphide Grease. Change Gearbox and Diff Oils every 100,000km (the oils also have Molybdenum Disulphide in them) FYI Molybdenum Disulphide is used extensively in the mining industry here in OZ

Every time I have spoken to a Schaeffer Oil rep there will be mention of Moly B several times.

If I were in your shoes I'd set a standard PM schedule and stick to it... you really don't need anyone's else's schedule... set a schedule and stick to it.

I change my oil every 50K... grease the truck once per month. I'm switching to CAT ELC coolant as the last stuff I used wasn't up to the task. The ELC should go 300K between changes.

Before everyone bust's my chops for my long oil drain intervals I'll let you know that I sample my oil every 20K and keep my idle time to 3% or less. My engine is probably as clean or cleaner than any high-mileage engine anyone has seen. I use 15W40 Delvac in this truck... I've owned it for seven years. Oil consumption is one gallon every 10,000 miles.

I've been on this 50k oil change deal with four trucks and four different engines...CAT 3126/Detroit 11.1/CAT 3406B and CAT 3406E. The B model was a little dirtier and, when I DID idle during the hot summer for A/C, I dropped the oil every 30K.

Now my engine is getting an in-frame after a little over 1,000,000 since the last in-frame. I'm going to switch to synthetic oil after the break-in period and install a by-pass filter. I may jump the oil change interval up to the next level... maybe 100K?

This stuff drives my kid nuts... he changes his oil so often he wears out drain plugs.

I grease once a week. Run Rotella Synthetic motor oil and change it at 36k, filters about 15k. Bout to get OPS-1. You can run up to 150k without draining the oil. I run Synthetic in the tranny and rears, so 450k on those.
