Ex driver trying to come back

Congratulations on your job! Newbies here is a guy that took the bull by the horns and threw the mega-company option to the curb! He now has an excellent job and will learn more from this owner operator in a month, then a year at those other companies. This is also going to allow him to make for a really good owner operator in the future. I hope you new guys will stop relying on the mega-companies as your only choice of career. This is a perfect example of the advice that I constantly give to you new guys! Once again TINCAN, congrats! Good luck and drive safely!

 

I'm glad you can speak for the entire industry. Chevron has hired drivers with no school. Arco has done it too. So if you think these companies don't care I suggest you look at the SafeStat numbers.

i think the "operative wording" is "HAD"........meaning they DO NOT do it anymore. i have not seen any gasoline company hiring drivers that has less than 5 years driving experience before they are hired to haul gasoline.......it was always a requirement..........

and if people ARE STILL being hired by gasoline haulers (with out schooling), then i want the guy to provide me absolute proof of that. otherwise, he's "HAD" nothing better to do than lie about something..........

 

A list of the companies would be nice. I am in the same boat as the OP.... Been off the road since 02

 

It goes the other way with your idiotic statement too. Prove they do not. I can prove it but I will not name names but if a driver worked for a major oil company and they closed their terminal he will have a great shot of being picked up with another major oil company. It's only common sense. I don't sit back and speak without knowledge of my own field so to put it bluntly you are the one wrong and no have no idea how the oil companies work. It's 2 years tanker experience and less than 2 years ago they hired a person with no CDL and taught them with there own safety program. That was ARCO. They promoted from within so you don't know what you're talking about. And I pity the people that are force to listen to your garble because half of what you say you picked up from a truck stop, or so it sounds. I'm done with you.

 

well then its a good thing you and your non-schooled buddies live out in nevada.........that way when they crash, no one will be hurt or killed, at least not the citizens of the state. and its always been 5 years driving experience BEFORE hiring a driver to pull gasoline tankers......you had better go back and re-read my statements.........and any company can "promote from with-in", your point........????

So Mark, I am living proof that you can do it, Although I went to CDL School ( Unemployment Dept paid, I didn't)I wanted more than getting hooked up w CRST or Werners, It took me a couple of months to get a job but they wern't all that interested in my recent history, but i had a realitive working there, however I got and kept the job on my own merits, ask all your friends, relations and neighbors, network the heck out of every one and you will get a job, By the way, I was off the road for 26 years and just turned 69, tomorrow is my one year anniversary.

It's funny that you're in a position to teach and you come across as always being right when you spew erroneous information. Just looking at my pictures you can determine that I drove for ARCO. Why don't you take just a few minutes to check out SafeStat scores where you'll see our drivers and trucks are extremely low. I don't think there's too many companies that have scores that are that low. So to say or insinuate that we operate an unsafe operation is just ignorant.

Now I don't know you but judging by your postings I would bet you wouldn't qualify for employment with my company. You're just too inconsistent with your responses. But if you like there's a job opening for a transport driver at our Sacamento Terminal if you like to try. The pay is by the hour which is $23.50 for your 40 hours and time and half for anything over. Most drivers gross over $70,000 a year. All you have to do is go on the BP site and search in the careers field and you'll find it. What is very interesting is in the Job Details under the Essential Criteria and Qualifications so I'll quote-
-High school diploma or GED
-TWO years transport experience, prefer tanker truck experience
-Possess a valid CDL with all associated endorsements
-TWIC card
-Must have a good driving record
-Must be physically qualified including but not limited to the ability to lift,carry,push,pull or drag hoses and equipment of up to 50 pounds in weight
-Must pass pre-employment testing and drug/alcohol sceening test
-Must complete a pre-employment application

No mention of school and you'd be a fool to think a major oil company wouldn't hire a driver from another major if he or she left under good circumstances. Don't go off saying that's just one company because it's not. It's the only I found in a short time of searching that had a job opening. The majors operate the same on many levels but you wouldn't know that.

Now there's your prove if you just look but I'm sure your argue something with the facts. 5 years went out years ago and it seems you're just not man enough to admit when you're wrong. And again the sad thing is you're in a position to teach new drivers and should know better.

I don't wanna to be your friend, all I want is good sound information taught to new drivers and if you fail in that easy endeavor then it's time to find another career.
