Oh yeah, God forbid they find out. They might do something about it. Way to miss the entire point of doing something like this.

No need to re-read, like all of your posts that I come across I have read it and believe that I understand what you have written. In this case though, I don't think you fully understand what you are suggesting or have truly thought it through to the conclusion.

To wit; When the Teamsters strike their issue is with, and they form a picket line in front of, around, whatever, a specific business or businesses, they don't try to "shut down" an entire city, much less the nations capitol.

And if it were to happen, what are the real payoff's and what is a realistic outcome? If the blockade were successful at all, how long do you think it could be kept up or even be allowed to continue? In that amount of time do you honestly feel that anything would change? That any inconvenience that any lawmaker felt would be enough to make them run to the house or senate floor and demand changes for the trucking industry? Really?

If your counting on public support to force them into doing it consider that what your suggesting, if successful, would not endear the industry on anyone in it to the hearts and minds of the population, in fact it would probably just piss them off and have the exact opposite effect of what your looking for. Certainly after the media got a hold of it and did their spins... Strong arming of any type seldom, if ever really works in the long run.

I don't disagree with your motives for suggesting this, not at all. There are some pretty stupid things going on within the industry, but what makes the trucking industry any different than others in most peoples minds at this point in time? Profits are down, expenses are up. Credit and working capitol are hard to come by for many. Employers in every industry are demanding more out of their employees for the same or less compensation. Working conditions and situations are not always ideal or even optimal. And with the employment situation what it is across the country it is most definitely an employers market. They aren't worried about replacing anyone because there really are people lined up to get the same job and are willing to do it for less money, work harder and longer to get it and would be glad to have it. In any industry.

You are on the right track, but I personally feel that the plan suggested isn't the right one and unless I'm missing something, destined to fail and possibly do more harm than good. Just my humble opinion though...

I do like the idea about a "spokesperson" though. As a quick point of reference look at how much more visible the NRA became after putting Charleston Heston in place. I'm not advocating a celebrity per se, but at the very least the person would be well versed in the industry and well spoken, or at least able to read from a TelePrompter effectively. :)

At this point I have to wonder what position the ATA is taking and what they are doing. Same with the OOIDA. I'm sure they are at the very least reporting that they are doing everything possible, and very well may be. But it seems to me that heat should be put on them by the industry to do what really amounts to what they are supposed to be doing. This, again, in my opinion, is a more logical way to obtain the goals you seek. Working with and within the system will get the industry further and more support from John Q. Public.

But keep your thoughts and ideas coming! As I've said before I enjoy reading your stuff and your opinions. Even if we agree to disagree you make me think, and that's always a good thing!

A friend and i where discussing this post and he was saying that to get the countries attention all drivers would have to do is run legal. Is this a viable way to accoplish the end result that most drivers are looking for?

Only if all companies are legally bound to take no action against the driver for not being able to meet their unrealistic schedules. And that would have to carry very heavy penalties and be aggressively enforced. The government doesn't want that. They want drivers breaking the rules so they can write tickets and make money. The government is broke now, imagine how desperate they'd get if suddenly everyone followed their rules.

The gooberment isn't writing that many tickets! To make any "money" off of fines they would have to write at least several thousand a day but then how long before the drivers said screw this and quit due to the stupid tickets OR if every single one of then stood their ground and not paid the ticket but fought it! The gooberment wants stupid drivers that will buckle under, with no back bone and no danglies between their legs that will just pay and keep driving! Not fight the thickets! Fighting the tickets will make that cash cow dry up as then the gooberment will have to "pay" to fight that ticket also thus costing them money and more than what they would get from the ticket especially when you continue the thing about 2 times which is about as many times before they tell you to show or pay!

Now as to the running legal when the gooberment forces that OBRD the days of illegal will pretty much come to an end. Then it'll be on that company to MAKE things legal, shippers will have to get on the ball getting loads out on time and this old school crapola of get it there or else will be gone! It will take a few months before our gooberment figures it out that us lowly drivers kept America running, making money and kept us fed! Things will change but it's going to take a little while if we use Nothing In Nothing Out as the tool I've figured it out to be as and these whiney arsed wanna be drivers with that attitude earlier of "I'll laugh all the way to the bank while you all strike" wishes he was a driver poster gets off the coat tails of the ones who will try to make it work!
I don't condone the way when we had a few strikes back in the 70's and 80's where we had to paint on the trucks "MT Going home don't shoot!" or rocks and bricks off of the over passes crap! a 100 mile circle around a capital and "NINO" or "Rollovers Plan" what ever you want to call it should work! Just do not buckle under! It should ONLY take one time and the rest of the states if targeted will fall all over themselves to "get to the table!" And just think what will happen when you look towards that diamond shaped city on the borders of Virgina and Maryland!

The good thing about the NINO plan is everyone makes money by still hauling to the rest of the country. Those who live in the area will know and can stock pile food or even bring it home in the truck. It's not hard to figure out. Those who take advantage of the NINO plan well they have to look themselves in the eye in the mirror and take the crapola their fellow drivers pile on them hopefully making those losers quit and go back to where they belong like Mickey D's or BK as we really don't want them out here with us who are trying to get treated better by the "powers that be" and maybe get these gooberment powers to look at how these BFI's are treating us and get them more involved in cleaning up these Fleece plans, these companies that take advantage of drivers

And while I'm on it once AGAIN truck driving came in, in one of the 10 MOST DANGEROUS JOBS to have and these BFI's are paying 1970's and 80's pay? There is one of the first things that needs to be taken care of, right there! Where is the REAL pay we should be getting instead of MORE FREAKING RULES WE the Driver has to abide by while these companies screw us!

The idea is there. I wish I could be a part of it but thanks to that freaking GIFT of Cancer I will no longer be able to drive a CMV because to I will NOT put anyones life or mine in danger because I need to make money to feed my family or pay a house payment! I'll get off this embarrassing disability before too much longer and try for some desk driving job but believe me when I say I stand behind every one of you as I do the Military! You and you alone keep America moving and it's time you get what you deserve! Fair pay amd treatment and stop being used in these BFI lease plans!

It's a good plan but it reminds me of something every time it comes up.

While reading about his, I notice a few similarities to current circumstances. Tread carefully.

I just got an email from GE trailer Services. This company is one of the largest trailer sales and leasing companies worldwide! My cousin works for them which is why I get their monthly notices! Well my last post in here I brought up WAGES! All these think for them selves BFI's are saying freight is DOWN? Well according to Odumba and his crew it's not down but coming back! BUT this cut and paste from GE tells it all and I talk to my cousin at least once a month and his pay is coming back to where it used to be as he's selling and leasing more trailers than the past 2 years! Here is the cut and paste from GE with a little hint that drivers are STILL getting screwed as that BFI is trying to keep you in the bumb with that freight is down story! Yes flatbed and the construction side IS still down a bit but it is starting to nose up.

    ***********************************************************************

The word is out- freight tonnage is on the rise. Whether it's highway, rail or ports, freight is flowing in greater volumes than it was a year ago. Not surprising, trailers are getting scarce. This year's surge is EARLY- so you'll want to RESERVE EARLY!

Here are just a few snippets from recent freight publications. . . .

    • HIGHWAY: ATA Freight tonnage posts 7th consecutive Year-over-year increase
    • RAIL: Intermodal is bouncing back at an even faster pace than trucking. The 4-week moving average of intermodal loads hit 217,511 in July, the highest level of the year and a 15.3% increase over the same period in 2009(ACT Research, N.A. CV Outlook, July 9, 2010)
    • PORTS: Port volumes are up across the board. Estimates for container loads indicate June 2010 could be a record (for month of June) totaling 1.23 million TEUs. That would be a 32% increase over June 2009. (ACT Research, N.A. CV Outlook, July 9, 2010)
Use this information wisely! Keep watching trailer manfacaturers nasdaq numbers! Along with trucks!

Keep your eye on meats and produce along with such products as Procter and Gamble and Benkiser! These are your wifes cleaning stuff and personal hygiene products! Women will always keep the house clean but when these stocks start to rise well she being the real boss of the house knows she can spend more to keep that house clean and comes off the cheaper products back to the better cleaning things! This is actually a stock brokers hint I got many years ago on a delivery to NYC at dinner in the financial district one evening. It's always been spot on!

RollOver, your plan is well thought out and in theory should work, but there are two holes in your plan that I think make it impractical.

First is the fact that the government is much more powerful then all the Truck Drivers combined. Look at what Reagan did with the Air Traffic Controllers strike. They thought they would shut down the Nation's air traffic. NOT.

Secondly there is a government entity called FEMA. FEMA has contracts with enough companies and Independent Drivers to break the strike. If they can supply food, water, and consumer items; to four States after Hurricane Katrina, then they can cover a 100 mile radius blockade.

Obama just declares a National Emergency and presto, FEMA goes into action and the contracted companies and drivers have to haul by law, or risk going to Jail, because of their contracts. End of Strike, game over.

How does this work? Well, as soon as any contracted company or driver, refuses to fulfill their contract, FEMA asks the courts to order the company to comply. Then if the company still refuses to comply, the court finds them in contempt, and somebody is going to jail.

Believe me, the federal district courts will fast track the cases if asked to by the Justice department.

I have refused to go into or out of California for over a year now. My own little strike so to speak. I know my last company had REALLY good freight for our decks in and out of Cali. I still refused to go. I just got good freight elsewhere. That and I didn't have to deal with that hole of a State.
