That would occasionally want to run backwards!
I had an air throttle on my 8V92, kind of like a primitive cruise control. On 80 through Nevada I could flip the switch, dial it up to 2100 & climb up on the dog house to reach in the sleeper for my baggie of whatever.
Remember Glow Plugs?

My Dad gave my son his Isuzu diesel. Broke down, couldn't figure it out til mech said 'glow plugs'. Replaced; worked fine til he wrecked it skipping school!!!!kajidono said: ↑All our skid loaders still have the glow plugs. I used to have an 86 cutlass with glow plugs.Click to expand...

Great four wheeler looking back..... -
hmmm ether injection--i have never seen one operational--always unhooked and that is more than likely a good thing--

Air over hydraulic you mention is still very popular in Jap trucks up to 50 000lbs.blackw900 said: ↑Thanks for the clarification...I was a kid when I drove it so I was just guessing on how it worked...The trailer had air brakes and the tractor had hyd. cylinders at each wheel and a mechanical hand brake.
Glad I aint drivin' it now!Click to expand... -
how about air starters? first time I heard one I bout jumped outa my skin!
I still have an old Kubota tractor with a compression release and my P/U has glow plugs (86 Chevy)
When I got out of school I worked at a truck shop we had an old gas tractor converted to a wrecker, what a gutless POS. -
My powerstroke still has glow plugs! I have used ether on starting some military trucks that are stubborn to start LOL It works almost every time!
-
I have worked on many diesel water and fuel pumps in the military that have commpression releases also. I hate using those darn things.
Did you know the Marine Corp still uses the 8v92 blower/turbocharged air throttled POSs. Still in use today and they just stopped building trucks with them in it about a year or 2 ago. Now they have switched it to a C-15 cranked to 625 and a 7 speed allison. -
Oh hell, the truck I took my driving test in had an air starter. I had forgotten about it until I started the truck again. The tester and I both about jumped out of our skins.
