I've got a bench at home that I was given by a friend some years ago that is small and adjust to various positions(incline, decline and flat). I can also do crunches on it as it's decline position resembles a roman chair. It's designed for dumbell lifts and could easily be mounted on the back of a sleeper. I would be concerned about road grime and weather exposure though. You may be able to find one similar to it a walmart or a store that carries fitness equiptment.
I would be a little leary of a foldable bench, esspecially if you're working with heavier weights. I would want something really solid.
Try the exercise ball, thats what I use and you will really be surprised at all the different lifts that you can perform, from ab iso crunches to dumbell presses and flyes, its extemely versitile. It also stores in the top of the sleeper easily.
When I need more than that I go to a gym which is ussually about 3 or 4 days a week. Theres no substitute for the feeling you get from lifting heavy steel.
Drivingpro, I did see that 100lb kit of steel on wheels at wally world and I came real close to buying it but I did'nt know where I'd put it. Its in a black plastic box on wheels. Anyways give the exercise ball a try, I think you'll like it. Good luck and keep up the good work.

I did see a bench at walmart thats similar to the one that I told you about, I think it's called the competitor and is fairly small. By the way if anyone else is intrested walmart has a good selection of free weights and exercise equitment right now, some items are new, check them out. Eat right and exercise.

I just spent the last 45 minutes reading this thread and taking down all kinds of notes. I have been at the point where I need to change for the healthy but my problem is with staying motivated. I didn't see that addressed. It seems like I could put together all kinds of plans and every thing goes strong for a couple days but then I slip back into the same rut I was in to begin with.

In November I quite a 2 pack a day smoking habit (15 years long) I haven't even looked back. I drink almost nothing but water; no soda at all for the last 3 months. I put away at least a gallon a day. I love water. Most of my meals come out of my cooler. I try and stick to the low/non fat items and any sandwich I make is on 12 grain wheat bread. Snacks for me have been non-fat yogurt, sugar free jello cups, and as much fresh fruit as I can. From what I read threw this thread I plan on changing somethings and getting a little healthier and more creative with my selections. Like more chicken and turkey, not that processed high sodium stuff.

For exercise in the truck I bought a set of 40lb dumbbells and 10lb wrist/ ankle weights. Like I say with some of the things I learned I feel I am on my way to making major changes but I just can't seem to stick with it from day to day. I drove team air-freight for years and I was heavy coming in to it, I didn't care what I ate, now I hate to say but I need to loose about 125lbs to get to where the doctors say I should be, But on a good note I now run solo so I at least have the time if I have the motivation.

I know this seems simple, hey this guy wants to change, he knows what to do, so the change should be easy right? What if its not. What do you say or do to your self to make that push? Also any other ideas would be great.

Hey lil daddy thanks for all the great advice here, please keep posting and letting us know what we can do and eat to stay fit and healty on the road. I am just getting back into truck driving after being out of work since 2001 from a back injury. I need to get rid of a lot of weight and get back into shape, which I WILL do, come hell or high water, I am so tired of being fat and over weight.

My wife and me quit smoking almost 6 weeks ago, I know I really feel great about this and it has given me a lot of positive motivation to keep pushing my self.

    Thanks again lil Daddy!!!!

I applaud you, it is hard enough to eat right and exercise when not driving 12 hours a day. I hope the routine you have established continues.

I would also suggest regular check ups with your physician, cause for all you do you cannot change heredity. So if there is a family history of cancer or diabetes get regular check ups.

I am a diabetic and will soon be going with my husband on his truck. I have been searching for ideas getting ready for this.
Some of the things I came up with are a jump rope, mini stepper, folding bike, resistance bands and 32 laps around your truck=1mile.
Hope this helps some of you out.

    Hi,

I've been on the health food thing for a long time. It's an area I'm continually learning new things in. Took me getting very ill years ago before I changed my habits and spent a few years searching out supplements etc. I do have a question though. I had a chronic sinus infection that took over 5 months to clear up. I kept getting sicker on the antibiotics (yes, i know they're a necessary evil at times) and it turns out I was doing a ton of irreverible damage to my nerves, muscles and who knows what else. GRRRRRRR,,, they didn't disclose that can happen to some people in the "quinolone" type of these drugs. Anyways, I've been on a week and a half of diflucan every 3 days, and the other day switched to nystatin for a few months treatment to kill out all the candida overgrowth. I did notice it's helping some with the pins (knives) and needles and lessening the muscle cramps some, like a tiny bit each day. Do you know of anything else that can help me rebuild from the damage. I don't believe it's here to stay, and am pushing myself very hard to just walk even a mile a day again to try to get back in shape.

    Thanks:)
