There trucks in indy are old may as well of giveing me a cabover!!
AS far as where your going to sleep at nite the place they have you should of been condemned. The rooms where dirty me and my room mate took 2 or 3 hours just to clean it to the point we could feel ok laying down in are beds after we went out and got some tarps.
Bath towels we had a guy who had his own and wash them his self end up in the room next to his if the did clean there towns there is omost no way for his to end up in the room right next to his. I should point out they say them clean them when your in school yea right. it was wearm/hot when i was there are room ac was great till a week in to class we come back and are room was hot as hell truns out the took ares something about it need to be cleaned.
in the end go to another school or pay for it your self if you can
i need to add i went with pam but had to come back to be a care taker for my grandma and pa borth are still not in the best of health but i found a place to take care of them now so im going to weiner soon

rentamedic, how long did you drive for PAM before coming off the road?
Also, I've heard bad things about Central simply because of owner, Jerry Moyes. Is it too bad that I should stay away from them?Last edited: Jan 1, 2010

Here's what ticks me off with PAM if you get on with them after Drivers Solutions & C1. They nickel & dime you to death on deductions. Some are warranted but others are definitely not.
- $45/week deduction for 1 year for CDL training.
-$25/week deduction to escrow account up to $500. They say they will return this 90 days after resignation/termination if you make it 1 year.
-PAM is cutting pay 5% (pretax) across the board so another 5% off your pay
-Once eligible, insurance is $16.50 per week - single coverage & $53.00 per week for family coverage.
With the big possibility that miles will be slim and you may only get one big run per month, paychecks are likely to be slim. If I average 2,000 miles per week with PAM, that is $500 gross. After my deductions (family insurance coverage) that's $352 and tack on another 20% deduction for taxes & social security and I've brought home a whopping $281.60. And all that is contingent on me getting 2,000 miles per week.
I'm sorry for ranting but this kind of sucks to put it bluntly. I have been trying to decide between PAM & Central Refrigerated for some time now and I think I've made up my mind. Thanks to all the posters who have told it like it is. You've saved me from Drivers Solutions & PAM...
I'll take my chances with Jerry Moyes' Central! -
Now do you see the advantage of going to a cheaper tech school for driving training and not having a bottom feeder control your life for a year? And that escrow being refunded. They MUST refund any escrow no matter how long you worked they UNLESS they have a claim against you like a scratch in h paint, an OS&D claim that they can say was your fault or even cleaning the truck when you quit or get fired! It's a law!
That insurance cost is a nice low payment! My last family plan cost me $187 a week! And I had to drop my 14 year old as he cost another $90 dollars a week!
TIP: Follow the advice I gave in this post when you do get your truck and also when you quit so you MIGHT have a better chance in getting that escrow back! http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...s-advice/94252-what-do-when-you-get-your.htmljasper_truck86 Thanks this. -
i was with them for about a moth before i came back to help them

Yeah I understand now. It just took me sitting down and putting 2 + 2 together to realize it. If I were a single man, then I wouldn't care so much about that stuff but when you've got mouths to feed then it is important. I don't mind paying somebody back for providing CDL training but I don't need to be PAM's charity.

I decided to go with Central Refrigerated. The repayment plan is better the pay is better to start and from what I have read on these forums I don't have to go with their lease to purchase option(which I won't do). The way I figure it no matter what route I take I need at least a year or two before I can look into a regional or local position. Besides I have enjoyed reading and talking to some of the drivers from Central so it works out well.

I am hearing positives & negatives from both companies. I think overall, as a new-hire, you've got to bite the bullet and do what you've got to do. It's definitely no gravy train to start with. Still, I see better days ahead!

well now have you gone through the training and are you a driver i hope that you can find it enjoyable it can be a very rewarding career but at times can get really stressful just have to do the best you can to keep the shiny side up and learn to drive for every idiot on the road whether they are in a car or a truck good luck
