I'm as crazy as you, Bonnie. I'd love to sit through a hurricane. Like you, the storms thrill me. I've never been in a "serious" storm, and I don't care for the destruction and loss of life, but I would like to see something big. I'd love to go out storm chasing.

After being in the hurricane areas after Ivan, Katrina, Charlie and a couple of others, and seeing the places last known for a hurricane party and nothing left behind. This includes the many people that disappeared at the party.

And after doing weather spotting because I care for the community and placing myself at risk with tornados for no pay which means I go out and leave my family behind to deal with the disaster.

I think you guys are nuts. Sorry, but you should stay away.

the thing is with a hurricane there will always be damage and usually loss of life. I am happy to say that so far NONE of my friends from the Virgin Islands were injured or killed, there was however property damage to many of their home and business's but that is to be expected.

I sincerely hope nobody misunderstood what I was saying. I have always been fascinated by weather. My want/desire to see these catastrophic acts of nature is not to get in the way of those who face such acts, but rather to learn from them. Living in the midwest, the potential for seeing a hurricane is minimal, while seeing a tornado is quite possible. However, I've never seen one and wouldn't have any idea what it looks like to see such a storm form. I hope this explains a little better what I was trying to say before.

Didn't misunderstand TB! Some people enjoy watching the stuff roll in and so on. Not a big deal if you do. Me, I'm a chicken! I will be the first one to the basement!

I have no fascination with storms. I would prefer to stay home and not worry about them. However, when the pager goes off, we go out and look in order to save lives.

We have "people who are just fascinated" that come out and drive around looking at the storm and getting in the way. We need to keep these people in mind when we are looking in the sky and tracking a storm. In case we need to move quick and they are in the way.

The same happens in the winter storms as well. The roads get closed, but "people" have to go out and see the roads. They wreck, then I have to go out.

I just do not see the need.
