The hard workers in any job that is "piece work" will rise to the top of the money ladder. The rest make excuses of why they couldn't make money.

Your myopia is apparent. Too many 'unwashed' applying for too few legitimate 'empty seats'. The industry's chronic overcapacity situation isn't going away anytime soon.
Sometimes it's tough to tell the difference between trucking 'cheerleaders' and 'internet recruiters'....
-
What is it about a O/O who is making money and gets home when he wants that bothers you. Are you a failure in trucking and don't like it when others are not? I'm not a cheerleader/recruiter. If you apply yourself to this job you can make it work. If you expect it to be handed to you and its not, you end up whining here?
-
You really haven't stated anything constructive and have only made assertions. I've made a good living for the most part and have had few regrets. 'Misrepresenting' trucking to those who don't know is epidemic and you're only contributing to that pathetic end. Soundbytes and selected 'images' are the 'mainstay' of the 'propaganda industry'.
-
Misrepresenting trucking? What part of hard work don't you get? With a little looking you will find that statement in my post. Your agenda is very easy to see thru.
-
And you forgot to answer my question.
-
Please state for the record your perception of 'my agenda'....
This question(s)?
Not deserving of comment beyond you don't seem to be legitimate. -
That would be the question. As far as being legitimate: I'm making money as O/O. If thats hard for you to understand I'm sorry.
-
So where does some one go who wants to start out and not get sucked into the slick ads.
-
Excellent question with very few answers.
As a new driver, you have to start somewhere. If at all possible, try to stay away from the mega-haulers. they are a revolving door.
Look for local, small to medium size places. Look outside the box. Concrete mixers, dump trucks, flatbed outfits, end-dumps, etc. Try to establish a one on one repoire with a local company.
Get some experience under your belt.
