my thought was to put a different reader port in for the dot to hook up to--tuck the original up inside the dash so you can get to it---then wire new one live to bat voltage on all the ports except for one ground--and smile as they plug in and are holding a smoking melted piece of plastic in their hands--they assume no liability when they plug in to your ecm--so it should be the same you assume no liability if their reader wont quite work right

I have been using it for a year now, and it's great to have.Worth every penny. When they sent across border I did not pay duty as they put value of unit at 25 bucks.took me 30 min to hook up.It intercepts signal to ecm from speed sensor, so you could be be doing say 120 kilo in Nebraska but speedo says 104. I use a gps to gage road speed.Your speedometer will read what you set the dial at......my truck is govern at 104 so I set at 103 hit the switch and away you go. Back in Onterrible I shut off and any scan done on truck will read 104.

To change parameters such as Max Road Speed, you will need the software, CAT ET and an interface (Diagnostic Adapter) RP1210 complient, There are several types available, PF-Diagnose Adapter, Norigon, Nexiq USB-Link to name a few, You need to get them from special dealers. You can get the CAT adapter but it is the most expensive. Ebay might be a good place to look. I would not worry too much about warranty issues as I am a Mechanic an in all the years I have worked in dealerships, I have never been asked for an Audit trail when performing warranty repairs.

The Speed sensor device sounds like a great ides, if you have a manual transmission, Automatic Transmissions may detect a fault as Input and output speeds would not match the applied gear ratio. Also be careful if you have a 4 wire speed sensor, 2 wires are for the ECM, (Speed limiting) and 2 for the speedometer on older say around 2001 trucks.

All engine manufacturers are relatively the same, however Truck Computers are only factory locked for HP and Torque ratings, Roadspeed is dealer changable and may have an owner password but they are not Factory passworded. You will need the software for the engine, CAT ET for caterpillar, DDDL for Mercedes and Detroits, Cummins Insite for Cummins and International ServiceMaxx for International engines. You wioll need an RP1210 Adapter, PF-Diagnose Adapter, Dearborn DPA4, Nexiq USB-Link to name a few. You do not need to but the OEM adapter, if you use CAT ET, for example, You can use any of the adapters above. Same for Cummins Insite or DDDL, If you have a Volvo or MACK engine, you will need different software and probably a different adapter.

OEM Engine Software is Copyright software and needs a key plus annual renewal license. Cummins Insite will run you about $800 if I recall correctly, plus a $400 or $800 annual license.

To assist you further I would need to know what engine you have and what year.
