I'm with ya. I might be on the road to being a trucker, but I'm still a girl...and my man likes the girly stuff. So want to keep myself up (at my age I need a bit more maintenance) and keep him happy. A happy man at home makes a happy girl on the road! :biggrin_25525:

Oh he's never complained...he wants me to be happy. But I just know what he likes and like to keep him as happy as he makes me. :) There's nothing like some good shoe therapy and a mani/pedi to make you feel like a girl and that carries into everything you do. I know when I feel good about myself it comes across in my attitude and my interactions with others.

You ladies might consider starting a thread about how truckers can improve their attitudes through shopping, grooming, and relaxing and how it fosters success. I know it sounds a little toung-n-cheek, but I recall a relative that traveled a lot telling me why he always stayed in first class hotels. He said it made him feel like a million bucks which in turn improved his self esteem and his sales!

From some of the threads on TTR I have gotten the impression that there are more than a few truckers who have negatively impacted the profession because of either their personal apperance or their customer service skills. Perhaps with your suggestions they could find time for themselves and improve their persona & outlook on life.

Personally I always get a kick out of how a pair of jeans with a crease ironed into them make me think that person is neat and organized.. Silly probably but that's my perception.

What a good suggestion! I don't think it's silly at all. Your outward appearance is a huge factor in how you are perceived. Working in the corporate world for so long I know you have to put your best foot forward. So many days I don't feel like dealing with it, but I get up, put on something that makes me feel good about myself and before I know it, I DO feel better and am able to handle whatever comes my way. I'm not saying I need a ball gown but I've also seen some truckers who quite frankly are a disgrace to any profession. If you don't take pride in yourself, you won't take pride in your job, your loads, your company, etc.
I've heard trucking compared to the military. In some ways I see the parallel. Do you really think a drill sargent would stand for one of his men not showering and wearing a ripped up, smelly uniform? I think not.

Ok, so let's get this thread back on track. :) How is the training/mentor situation for the new lady drivers? From the other threads I'm reading it seems like a "take what you're offered" on the trainer. I would be more comfortable with a female trainer, but how feasible is that in the real world?

I think there are plenty of lady trainers out there. My wife and I drove for Central(which I am sure everyone is tired of reading by now) and there were at least a handful of lady trainers there. However some women preferred going with the men because I guess there were some catty situations! I would really recommend talking to drivers during your orientation and trying to find someone you click with. There are a lot of trainers that will be coming and going while you are at a terminal learning the ropes.

On a side note: If you ladies are going to carry a lot of war paint and fufu sprays make sure you keep them in ziplock baggies. When you drive over the mountains out west they tend to explode! My truck smelled like a french ##### after the Cannes Film Festival! So after buying all new fufu and paint I had her put it all in baggies.

As far as your poop bucket goes, it fits very nicely inside the spare tire on the back of the catwalk so you do not have to keep inside the truck. Just make sure you line it with a trash bag.(one per use!) If you use to little 2x4 boards about a foot long for a seat you won't have to squat and burn up your leg muscles! This will allow you time to read the paper!
