I went through Mister "P" Express school to get my CDL. 6 of us started and 4 of us finished. I went out with trainer OTR for 4 weeks. I never spent a dime on the road. He cooked in the truck and about once a day we would stop and eat at an oldschool truckstop or some dive with truck parking. I.E. Southfork, Ark. Then I did one week driving city with Trainer and got lots of practice backing. Then I had a solo test with one of the trainers from school, driving around the city for 3 hours. You cant hit a curb and you back in between 2 trailers in our yard. I was paid .10 a mileduring training and 7.25 an hour duing training in the city. Once I was cut loose I drove city by myself for 2 weeks # $12.25 to get use to being alone and if something happened they could get to me quick. Now i'm on the end of my second week OTR #.33 We dont have qualcomm, we dont have a idle rule. We have about 90 trucks and 300 trailers. I get home about 2 or 3 times a week for a few hours, and every weekend. Almost all drop and hook or drive back empty. The dispatchers know all drivers by name. I see what I read on here about all the big companies before I got into this. I guess I lucked out. Thank god, I didnt go to Prime o TMC. :biggrin_255:

Are ya still happy with the company? I just left their HQ and talked to one of the recruiters for a bit. Sounds like a really good company to start a career with. Have you been getting good hometime? Driving in NYC? If you dont mind me asking, they told me that once training is over I can expect $700-$1000 a week take home pay, is that realistic?

Much appreciated and feel free to add any additional info.
    Thanks

Yes I love working for them. If I need a day off for an appointment no problem. We have assigned trucks but if your off then the trainers will use them for the students and sometimes the city drivers may use your truck. This week I ran up to Chicago Sunday night then came right back. As soon as I got back I got home for about 6-8 hours, then went on a UPS team run to Sioux Falls, SD. We made that run twice this week. I had a little over 4300 miles this week.Got home at midnight last night. I'm off till I think I need to leave to make my appt time in Peoria, Ill. on tuesday morning at 7. Yes you can make $1000 a week but not starting out as a rookie because they wont you that hard till you prove yourself. $400-550 a week Is more realistic running by yourself the first month and a half. Im just now getting good paychecks but I like running teams with 3 different guys I've met and they trust me to run there trucks. You can choose to get a smoking truck with a trainer or not also. They take care of you there but your not gonna make as much as they lead you to believe. But we do have freight. I would rather make a little less and be home a little bit during the week and every weekend. Any questions Pm me.

Oh yea we run NYC alot but you get $100 as soon as you go over the GW bridge. NYC isnt that bad from my experience so far. Atlanta is far worse. Most my runs have been Chicago, Philly, Newark NJ, Memphis, Columbus and Cleveland Oh. Some loads are driver assist to the end of the trailor and you get $50 for helping. Its easy ####. If you sit more than an hour on a UPS load its $25 an hour.

I tried to send a pm but the system wouldnt let me because I dont have 7 post yet, weird. Anyway, thanks for the reply. Their next class starts Oct.5 and im wanting to make a decision this week and the more info you can provide the better. First, what the hell is a smoking truck? LOL. Do you have any idea how much medical insurance is for a family? $4-550 take home pay for the first couple of months, Im ok with that as long as I can reach $650-750 take home in the first 6mos or so. Is that realisitic? Do you have to run teams, if so, how often? Was your training what you expected? I know Im asking alot questions but your the best source of info I have and I do sincerely appreciate you taking the time. Well, Im sure I could ask a hundred more but I dont want to overwhelm ya at once...LOL.

    Thanks Again

If anyone else has any experience with Mister P, please chime in. Im trying my darnest to stay away from the easy choices that everyone here warns about. Tomorrow Im going to hang out at a local Pilot and hopefully get some useful feedback. Btw, I messed up earlier, Mister Ps next class starts Oct4. so Im trying to learn all I can before joining up. A smoking truck is a truck your permitted to smoke in. there are non-smoking trucks also. medical insurance. HA HA, you cant afford it your first 6 months. Yes we run teams. They will ask you if you if you want too. If you turn them down alot then you will be on #### runs for a while. So if you smoke you will be paired up with a smoker. We have about 10 dispatchers they will all know you after 2 weeks of running by yourself. They will give you a day off if you request it at least a week in advance. The only thing I dont like is you never know where your gonna have to bust your ### to, to pick up your back haul. Once you deliver you call inbound dispatch to get a backhaul. Thats when life can suck. All the trucks are 2005 and newer. All Volvo's and about 17 Freightliners. You wont get one of them unless your a "Billy big Rigger" and run your ### off for them. The dedicated teams have big Volvo's. They buy all their trucks used from Knight. They usually have 300 thousand miles on them. You wont get one. What you will drive is one of the older ones on the lot that has roughly 750,000 miles or more but not more than a mil. They re-imburse all tolls and cat scales and anytjing you spend on the truck just turn in all receipts with your trip pack. The reason the next class doesnt start until Oct is because they are gonna "beef" up for the holiday season and use you guys as "cheap labor." The OTR trainers are all seasoned drivers over 10 years driving experience. The trainers at the school are Great. You will learn everything you will need to know to get your CDL. There are 3 skills you will ,aster. Straight line backing. Off set Right or Left, and paraellel parking. Not hard. If you wanna make yourself standout then have your permit before class starts. Go get your CDL booklet at the driver license office at Bowman field. If you live in Indiana more than likely you will be in class longer cause of the IN rules. Any other questions just ask.

My trainer told me I would have to get a Ky license, not a big deal from what she told me....."Cheap Labor" I was told I would get 31cents a mile after training and she told me they are only hiring for OTR right now, does that seem to be right. Do they have solo dedicated routes that I could work into? I know they have city routes but not sure what exactly that is, mileage, pay, hometime etc. Do you have any regrets so far?

I could have put this in the previous post, but im trying to hit my 7post rule so i can send pms...LOL. Mission Accomplished!

Do you have to request weekends off, if so is it a big deal to the company? Im assuming family medical is more than $50 a week. When I called and asked Lea I think, she just told me they have like 7plans and I would have to come in and see. It sounds to me like that every time your haul is finished you have no idea what each day after will be, am i thinking right?
