I believe that half of the problem in the trucking business is with recruiters and the safety departments. and then dispatchers, then the owner if you ever see him/ her. They need to be right up front and say it like this. We re having you transported 1000 miles for a interview so you won't back out on the deal cause we are buying pizza. Safety department says we run legal all the time. Oh then the dispatcher says you have to make your dock time. Then the boss gives you a funny look because the former three screwed up.:biggrin_25510:

Well to start with most recruiters get paid per head. They are head hunters trying to fill seats for the company. They are given goals that they have to achieve.

The safety department WANTS you to run legal. They KNOW what can happen if the DOT nails them.

Dispatchers are nothing more than computer geeks that need a job. You can tell the ones that KNOW what they are doing, those are rare in the large companies ...but they are there, normally they have been moved into higher positions.

The owner if you meet him/her will be surrounded at most times with the people that will destroy you in the long run with the company. So if you do get to talk to him you can bet they will be taking notes on who you are, so that if you throw egg on the owners face you can bet you'll be had.

But as you are no rookie you knew this already you were just testing us :biggrin_25525:

After 20 years, you should already know the answers !!!!

However, usually the better the company- the better the recruiter !!!!!

Well if I have twenty years of experience why would they lie to me. I sit across the table and theyare telling me so and so. I've already talked to a couple of their drivers. so I really know how it will happen. If they just told me the truth things would be much better. Come on!! Say this job is tough. the equipment is poor. you will sit on docks for hours. get paid little. and get over it.:biggrin_25510: It is just getting hard to figure out how much they are lying.

You don't have 20 years if you can't figure out the answer your own question. They are PAID to LIE period end of story they could care less about you, me or any other driver on the planet if they successfully get you recruited and hired with said company they've done the job they were hired to do.

But in twenty years I've seen it get worse. Hey you remember the split rims? you know the one with inner tubes and you would bust them down and put a hot patch on? They were sweet. Then when you aired them up you would put the air hose on then run away until the ring popped then unplug the hose from the compressor so you didn't lose your arm. Or maybe manual slack adjusters. Or oversize brake shoes because the drums were worn.Remember the screaming Detroit's. You wanted to make sure the exhaust stack was on the passenger side. Maybe a Diamond Reo they were sweet in their time. You ever adjust a clutch? the do it different now. Some useless mechanics would just adjust the linkage.Ever been :biggrin_25523:to Canada and didn't think you were getting back. OK I'm a newbie

    Well said Nik.

You do good, they pretend to be your friend from 7-5 and don't know you from 5-7.
Why are you assigned an employee number like a prisoner, yet the office people are referred to by name??

My Daddy always said a recruiter is a paid liar. And he was talking about military recruiters not to mention for a few years he was a military recruiter. LOL

Just look at it like a teenage boy trying to seduce his prom date. What isn't he going to say??
