When shifting do they make you double clutch? In NJ you have to DC when you do your road test. After you pass they say you can do whatever you want.

Yeah we do. Our instructors say chances are whatever company we go with will probably teach us to float gears once we're out with a trainer (or perhaps in a training program like W&S), but while we're in school we only double-clutch, as I do believe they have told me that is the standard for the CA DMV road test as well.

Had to put my 2 cents in. My husband and I drive as a team for WS. We graduated from the 10 day this past January in Missoula. All of the advice you have been given so far has been spot on. My only suggestion would be to check on tuition reimbursent and being paid for the 10 day orientation before you commit. We were not offered either one in January, but I know they have been in need of new drivers, so things have changed. We have a blog if your interested about what our experience has been out on the road if you are interested. www.hobotruckers.blogspot.com We really enjoy working for WS. Good luck to you in finishing your school.

going to orientation on the 27th. other than clothes and some other things what paperwork( licence, driving school paperwork) should i bring ? Someone mentioned birth certificate, Just want to be sure to bring everything ill need. thanks
-
Yes, bring your birth certificate. You will also need to bring your social security card. They also tell u to bring 10 days worth of clothes, but keep in mind, once you graduate you will be hauling everything you take with you. If your truck isn't in Missoula you will either ride with another solo to pick up your truck or could be put on a bus to get your truck. There are laundry facilities in Missoula, so pack lightly, but wear layers. The weather in Montana changes on a dime! Good luck to you in orientation. You will be thrown a lot of information in those ten days. Take good notes and stay positive. Watkins Shepard is a great company to work for.

Thanks Hobos, I'll be doing my orientation in N.C. do you think i'll be able to get a truck there or have to go elsewhere. I just saw your blog and think its great keep it up !! Thanks for your help.

Chris (Chralb) just finished orientation in Carolina and I think he had to go to Mississippi to get his truck. Probably depends on what's available when the time comes to get you in a truck. -
Wulfman75 is exactly right. It just depends on the availability once ur done with orientation. I haven't heard any feedback on NC training good or bad, bit I'm sure it will be the samething as in Missoula...but warmer! Good luck to u.

Does W/S have a problem with a newbie who was fired from a previous job that had nothing to do with trucking? I am seriously considering them, but I don't want to get rejected because I didn't type fast enough at my last desk job. I already got my info from W/S and I need to commit to an orientation date so my school (AIT Gardena, CA) will set my DMV appointment for me. I ask this because I heard Stevens doesnt take you if you were ever terminated from a non-driver position.
