    What does the "L" in W900L mean or stand for?

    L=Long hood.
    In pete speak, it would be called an EXHD (extended hood).
    A short hood would not have the L, I have also seen them designated a W900 B (I'm sure there's more to the 'B' than just the shorter hood)

    The "B" was assigned to the W900 after the 1982 redesign. I'm guessing it's just differentiate it from the prior W900A body.

    Kenworth also did the something similar with the T600. The 1985-1989 models were the T600A and models built after 1990 were known as the T600B.

    FWIW, there's a W900S that has a sloped nose like the T800.

    Interesting, here (in MI) the heavy haul daycabs (T800s)that pull MI trains) can be specced with W9 hoods, presumably to allow for a larger radiator. I wonder if the sloped hood is the 800 one?

    The difference between the T800 and the W900S is the front axle. The front axle on the T800 is set back while on the W900S, it's set forward.

    So if you want a "W900" with a set back axle, you order a T800 with the W900 hood. If you want a T800 with a set forward axle, you order a W900S.:biggrin_25520:

    tag says that...but is a W900L hood length....have no idea...might just have been a misprint on the tag...everything else shows as L...so who knows lol

    the "B" is just for the body redesign in the early 80's ( they widened the cab and redesigned the dash)...."L" is just a long hood

    i've been looking at a 1973 W900A again lately...i just like the flat dash and love the idea of a big cam IV ( i used to rebuild those half often)

    only down side is it's hashed out from years of misuse, abuse and being parked in a feild....i do have some history in that old girl....lol

    There is also a T800 that has a wide grill and only 2 headlights. I do heavy haul, I see alot of those.
