Ok, Wheew!! I passed the initial Orientation there in Dallas, TX & then went onto Houston for the bulk modual training. OMG!! This stuff scares me to death, that's for sure, No Doubt about it.
Anyway, I got home late this past Monday after being given a Rental car & a Comdata card (that didn't work) and, after having to take my 10hr break there in Atlanta, I finally drove the rest of the way in, putting me in Charlotte to turn in the Rental about 11am. Then, it took me another 4 hours to get a shuttle that goes between both the Hickory & Charlotte Airport to finaaly get me close enough to home where someone could come & pick me up.
After being off a couple of days, My triainer finally called me (a woman) and stated that I would be training with her there out of Charlotte, NC. She stated that she is a local driver trainer so that would mean that I would be staying in one of the hotels close to the OC for the next 2 - 3 weeks. I was really surprized by that as I was anticipating that I would be out over the road with someone for that period.
NOPE!! She said that because she was a local trainer, I would be staying in a hotel, getting up as early as 3am, but definately back at the hotel around 5pm every day, except on sundays (she doesn't work on sudays) Which is all well and good by me.
The only question that I have at this point is at what hotel does SN use there in Charlotte, NC? And what restarunts are close enough to grab something.
Has anyone ever been trained by a local day driver and if so, what was your experiance.?
Thanks
Question?

Congrats on surviving the training. I hope to do the same.
I'd sure be real interested in knowing how Dallas and Houston went. Like most people on their way "to", just every possible and minute detail is all I'd request. LOL
I'll be watching your posts to see how it goes.
Stay safe...

Why would you have to take a 10 break in a rental car?
-
If the company pays for it, it is seen as a company vehical. Therefore, if you are a driver in a company vehical, regardless if rental or not, the 10 / 14 still apply. Look it up in the DOT Book
-
Did you get the full body orange paint or just from the waist up? Please explain to me how in the world the DOT or Green Bay for that matter would ever know how many hours you drove in a rental car? You are the ultimate company man aren't you? Should I be on the lookout for you because I don't wear long sleeves all the time and don't wear my hard hat at tank washes? Wouldn't want to have you make a phone call to GB.

WTF?!?!
you know he's a newbie, and his freaking trainer told him to log the like it's for real, so they can check it later and point out mistakes.
i'll go ahead and assume since you don't wear long sleeves or a hard hat that you're also the supertrucker who doesn't pretrip, replace lights, thump the tires, or leave a bol on a dirty placarded trailer that gets dropped in the middle of wyoming.Last edited by a moderator: Sep 17, 2010
wsyrob Thanks this. -
To quote you "WTF"? What does wearing a long sleeve shirt or hard hat have to do with doing a pre trip? I don't recall seeing in the DOT manual that one can only be done while wearing this stuff. So, am I to assume that you put your hard hat on every morning at the truck stop/ rest area/ tank wash/ van oc while thumping tires and doing your pre trip??????? I hope so, because next thing you know you might become like me and not shave every day either. Then you can really be a "supertrucker".
and BTW, I put a tire gauge on the tires, adjust the brakes, and carry multiple spare lights, nuts, bolts, caps, plugs, gaskets etc with me. You? I've been pulling these sewer pipes on wheels for a long time, just because I don't shave everyday, wear a hardhat every time I exit the truck or wear long sleeves when it's 102 in the shade and I'm fueling or walking across the parking lot, doesn't make me a "supertrucker" it just makes me a guy doing his job. And if I can get a little chuckle at a rookie, then all the better. I'm sure the old timers had many laughs at my expense when I was a newbie. so lighten up.Last edited by a moderator: Sep 17, 2010

Let me inform you that when you become a driver for a company and you are home for your h/t and you work at burger king flipping burgers you are suppose to log it on line four. Just saying. So if you are employed at a driver and are driving a rental car for them you have to log it.
