#1 They cannot ask your specific age. However may ask for your birthday on forms to run specific checks... ie Driving record.

#3 they can ask if you legally eligible to work in the in the US. Hence the I9 federal form you fill out.

#4 can be iffy. They cannot come out straight and ask you. However you may have seen questions like do you have difficulty stooping, squatting, sittting, standing etc... or is there anything that may keep you from performing this job safely.

#5 They cannot again ask you straight. But it may be wording, are you willing to submit to a drug and alcohol test. Or are you willing to work in a smoke free enviroment.

So you can see that just cause it says they can't ask it. They still can word around it.

Ryeman, all of those come to things that can be asked for AFTER the interview when they have decided they are willing to hire you. they CANNOT be asked for in the interview.

An interesting thing happened when my daughter interviewed for a job (non-trucking). While waiting in the reception area, the receptionist struck up a conversation with my daughter... and during the course of the conversation, asked her if she was married, did she have any little ones, and so on. You know, just "friendly conversation". :biggrin_25513:

Daughter came home, pissed, and related the conversation. I advised her to call the interviewer and the HR Manager and advise them of the conversation... and that she didn't appreciate the "fishing". I don't know if she followed through or not, but I would have. Politely, for sure, but just letting them know that they'd better advise their receptionist to keep her nose on her work and out of interviewee's lives.

Ducks this is actually permissible, the reason being the receptionist has no impact on the hiring process. All your daughter had to do is inform her she didn't wish to discuss her personal life.

    Ducks Thanks this.
