Yo BNR32, If you live 20 miles from a terminal, you can definately take your truck home. Now, if you ask WKSH, they WILL say no. So let me explain..... When i get to a terminal I drive around to walmart, out to eat, over to the mall, and ocassionally to ride go carts. In doing this I put around 50 miles on my truck each time. In a year they have never said a word to me about or, nor will they, as I know of guys that put well over 100 on the trucks while sitting around terminals waiting on loads. So if you take your truck home 20 miles away, they will never know you did it, nor will they say anything to you about it. You will learn very quickly in truckin that you do things to benefit yourself...... Good luck to ya

You might be right, but why take a chance with your job? If something should happen, say a drunk driver runs into it or something so random, it could cost you your job.
It's not worth it to me, and I live closer than 20 miles...Just my most humble opinion of course... -
hey warpd! I understand what you are saying, but have you ever gone to a walmart or anything in your truck while at a terminal? If so, then you are taking the same chance. I doubt you would lose your job if a drunk ran into your truck?!?!?!?
-
True dat! But I could explain away being in a Wally World parking lot, but parked all nite at my residence...
They never said NOT to go to Wally World, but we (at least my orientation class) were explicitly told not to take them home... -
yeah its a tough one. does WS use qualcomm and such, and does that or anything else they may use have gps to tell them where your truck is? that bit me in the ### once where i used to work haha...
im up in the air right now because W/S wants me up there but also looking like i got accepted with schneider. ideally i dont WANT to go against any companies policies, im sure i could work around this because they seem awesome otherwise. and i really dont want to go out with a trainer, even if it is probably a good idea for any new driver. -
BNR32, things I read looks like almost all companies use gps and some are even going to paperless logs.

Whatever you do, do not go to work for schneider!!!!!!!!!! Not trying to tell you what to do or anything, just trying to help you from making the BIGGEST mistake of your life. I know people that went there, hated every second of it, and got out as quick as humanly possible. If you wanna be the slowest truck on the road, not make any money, and be talked to as a number that the company could give a crap less about then go to schneider! Feel free to PM me with any questions you have about wksh that are making you unsure about them. I would go into things further on the open forum, but I forsee people getting angry with what I have to say. With Watkins you get as many miles as you care to run, once you have shown that you will run them. The pay here will dominate any schneider drivers, and like I said, I know people that went there and what they made vs. me. This whole thing about taking your truck home...... I was in conover the other day for the weekend and didnt think I was gonna be able to get a load back out. I don't keep a car at the terminal because I rarely go home, but at that point I wanted to go. At that point I got in my truck and drove almost 85 miles home, to find out they found me a load haha, and drove back another 85 miles to the terminal. Not one person at this company said a word to me about 170 out of route miles, where i was going, where did I park my truck....... The reason they didn't say anything...... cause I bust my balls for these people and the miles I run every week keep their mouths shut. Don't worry about a ride home, and I hope that isn't what is making you shy away from wksh. Like I said, feel free to pm me if you wanna discuss anything in detail...... Best of luck to ya, hope I don't see you in a slow orange truck!!! -
Almost forgot,
BNR32
Watkins does use qualcomm and they can track your truck w gps. The only time they use this is if a terminal manager is trying to figure out when you will be arriving with their freight. They don't sit around and monitor that, believe me. I joyride every time I get the chance, haha. You can't put me within 15 miles of huntington beach, CA and not expect me to go to the beach!!!! As for electronic logs, watkins aint gonna do that cause they know the only way we can get most of these loads on time is to run not so on the up and up...... -
ok well my old gm DID sit on his ### watching what people were doing, it ruined my day when they installed them. i still took the occasion 2 hour lunch, i just had to be a lot sneakier about it, and not have ac. they had their system set up to email him every time a vehicle idled.
after i posted WS actually called me a couple times and i should be going up this weekend, kind of short notice but i will be so happy to get the F out of this house and do some work. -
As you may notice from my past postings on W&S. I do like the company.
But effective about 30 days ago, the above comment is absolutely wrong...in a sense. W&S may look the other way. But.......
As a company who utilizes satellite communications for it's fleet. W&S will no longer be required to produce certian receipts during a DOT Audit.
They will be required to produce driver logs and all supporting GPS logs generated by that truck and driver combo.
Yes, personal use is authorized by the DOT. But, it will have to be documented.
